Second assists don't come much nicer than that.

WTF does Edmonton have to do with this. Or anything for that matter? I'm sick of hearing about that #### team every post on every thread. Flames fans seem more worried about them than their own team since McDavid came along. So sick of hearing about those goofs.

Not only are his 55 goals more than any player drafted in 2013, it's more than any player drafted in 2012 too.

In fact, he's tied with Brandon Saad for the 4th most goals by any player drafted since 2011, only one goal behind Andrew Shaw for 3rd.

Sean Monahan is exactly what this franchise needed, we have gotten very lucky that he fell to us in the draft.

I remeber thinking I really wanted that Finish centre who's name I can't remember anymore who ended up in FLA even though I new he would fall to us. So happy things worked the way they did.

Aleksander Barkov. He's developing a good two-way player himself, 11 months younger than Monny, 3 goals 3 assists in 7 games so far this year. Him, MacKinnon, and Monahan are IMO the class of the 2013 draft. We dodged a bullet when Carolina selected Elias Lindholm and Tampa selected Drouin.

The exact type of player I was hoping the Flames would get in the draft when they finally moved on from Iggy and Kipper. Flames are so lucky that 2013 draft was so ridiculously top heavy and the Hurricanes passed on Monny for Lindholm. Monahan was the player I wanted when I knew Mackinnon was not happening

Drouin had 32 points in 72 games last year. Comparable to Monahans first year.

This year he has 6 points in 8 games, off to a good start.

The issue in Carolina is the Staal era is not over, they just seem to be spinning wheels. It's not really Lindholms fault but I'd obviously take Mony over him.

Mony's looked great so far but this might be similar to 2003 draft. Where year to year different players look the best of their class. Staal did one point, Phaneuf as well, last few years it looks like Getzlaf. Weber obviously could go down as one of the best ever.

I'm glad we have Monahan but I wouldn't be mad if we had Mackinnon or Barkov or Drouin or Jones or Nichuskin or Ristolainen or Domi or Horvat etc.

Barkov might just develop to be one of the best 2-way-forwards in NHL in couple of years, just like Monahan!

I would have been fine with either one, the only concern is that Barkov is injury-prone & that's why I'm happy Flames got Monahan, also Canadian, can't hurt.

Monahan will get to 200 pts even quicker. The kid has rare qualities just needs to be more physical when he is along the boards but i think that will come. He is a great combination for Johnny, fun to watch those 2 when they are rolling.

Oh, Drouin's gonna be a star, especially feeding Stamkos on those one-timers. But drafting him would have made us Oilers South, just a bunch of soft toe drag specialists. Barkov, MacKinnon, and Monahan are true centremen who play complete games - the kind good teams are built upon. I also really like Horvat and think Vancouver's coach is totally putting him on some bad lines, but obviously right now Horvat's gotta be a tier below the other three along with Drouin and Domi. What a draft for forward talent, can't forget Marko Dano, Emile Poirier, Morgan Klimchuk

And Monahan's leading it all in goals

What's so awesome about Monahan is that he seemed to be what most considered to be the "safe pick" where the flames were selecting. Never heard him in the discussion of going in the top 4 in that draft yet now he is legitimately one of the top 3 players from that draft. I know it's still early and other guys may develop their game a little slower but he has so far exceeded expectations most of us put on him.

And we still see consistent improvement from him at this point. He's gotten, bigger, stronger, faster, better at face offs, stronger on the puck, and more patient with it as well. That shift he had last night in overtime was awesome! No quit! I think a gritty/physical element is starting to develop in him as well. Love having a guy like him as a corner piece of the organization.
