I may have picked Carlyle or Brent out of that group over Torts but it's no slam dunk and I don't know that locker room like their GM does.
Don't forget Mike Keenan! He was fired from his KHL job a couple of days ago.

I really think they are drives that take similar times. Point Roberts is obviously further.
Squiggs, I used to commute to the office downtown from Deep Cove (which is about as far as you can get from the downtown while still being in North Van) and, leaving at around 0715 to beat the worst of the traffic, it would take +/- 30 min, barring an accident or stall on the Ironworkers Bridge. This was only a few years ago, so add another 5 min for the increased congestion since then. You would be hard pressed to get downtown from Point Roberts in 35 min at 0200, never mind in rush hour or even in non-rush hour times. There is also a border crossing to contend with, albeit with a Nexus card that would not be onerous.

Back on topic, this is a great deal for the Canucks. We got more for Torts than we did for Kassian and Lack combined!

Omg... Shaddap already. Everyone knows Vancouver is no good, no matter where in the city you are driving from.

Sometimes when I want to go down to the Mac's convenience store, I go east a little ways on Crowchild until I get to the turnoff for Northland Drive. I then ease up to the multi-way stop and come to a complete halt, looking at the possibility of traffic coming from the left, or gophers wearing constuction helmets coming from the right. When all is clear, I make the turn and head north. I glance over at the seven blocks of cordoned off right hand lane, set aside for bicycle traffic. It's my deep and abiding hope that one day I will see someone riding a bicycle in there, but to this point it appears to be mainly used as a way to confuse people turning right off of Northmount Drive. Once I make it up to 52nd Street, I make a wide and annoying turn across the extra lane of ghostly bike traffic and discover that the Mac's that I thought was there has closed down and now has boards over the windows.

Torts would never have passed waivers without being claimed. Good on Benning getting a pick back.

Benning's best trade and he had nothing to do with it.

Very telling

Tortorella probably couldn't stand Canucks fans as much as the rest of us and wanted to stay as far away as possible. Can't blame him really.

Didn't take long for a controversy to spring up (if you can believe Brooks, who has a history with Torts)

That's why he was brought in as obviously the GM felt some of these players need a kick in the rear. You don't bring in a guy like Torts expecting a motivational players type coach. You bring in a guy like him if you feel the players need some tough love. If Johansen is in fact out of shape this isn't a lot different than Kessel with the Leafs as your best player has to set a proper example.

Yup sure sounds like they sent him back to work on his fitness... Illness is just a cover story:

@smitchcd
Johansen fell ill this morning and is traveling back to Columbus with assistant trainer, GM Jarmo Kekalainen said. #CBJ

When looking at things objectively and ignoring Brooksie:

Johansen gets bounced to the AHL early in his career desire flashes of good offensive play and is unhappy. Then, despite decent offensive numbers is benched in the AHL playoffs. Has trouble getting the ice time he feels he wants and then has a difficult contact negotiation.

Torts hired. There's one reason you hire Tortorella: whip the team into shape. Suddenly, Johansen gets sent home (and apparently the Trainer is going to make him chicken noodle soup?).

This is an organizational message, not a Tortorella message
