All this talk has me legitimately curious as to the trade value of Stamkos.
IMO, a signed/signable Stamkos will cost a lot more than Bennett unfortunately. Bennett+1st+a prospect is an absolute no brainier from our end but 28 teams would beat that in a second. Sub Hudler or Russell for the prospect and I don't think it really bridges the gap from TB's POV.
Any trade for Stamkos would be quite uncomfortable to say the least (in terms of what we would have to give up). Uncomfortable doesn't even do it justice, it would be downright painful. It's difficult to even speculate but I would think they'd want players like Gillies, Poirier and Klimchuk to be part of the conversation for sure.
Bennett+Gillies+Klimchuk+1st for signed Stamkos+2nd?
Too much? Too little? Drop the 2nd? Turn Klimchuk into Poirier? Turn Gillies into McDonald?
I'm thinking in terms of value, not what is good for the Flames future necessarily. There is no doubt that several of the aforementioned assets would be a part of any Stamkos trade. Whether or not it would be a good idea is separate from what i'm talking about.
People might bring up the Kessel trade as a comparable and say that is too much but remember that a) Kessel is not as good or as young as Stamkos b) this is Yzerman we'd hypothetically be dealing with.

Stamkos has a NMC, doesn't he? Why would he want to downgrade from a cup contender to the Flames?

I too wish to acquire and retain Stamkos for 3 magic beans!
However, I understand the importance of negotiation ergo I shall offer...2 magic beans?

Some of the posts in here hurt my brain. The fact that 1) some people don't want Steven Freaking Stamkos and 2) some people assume Treliving is dumb enough to trade for Stamkos without having a deal in place first blows my mind.

This is just news to stir the pot and get people to view it.
Are you guys out of your minds? The Lightning will absolutely NOT trade Stamkos.

If the Lightning can't sign Stamkos they will trade him and they will trade him to a team that he is willing to sign with

Not the same kind of player. Stamkos is more a modern Brett Hull. That's why Tampa wants to convert him to wing.
Bennett's comparables are a different class of player, think prime Mike Richards, that sort of guy

Did any specific info on stamkos' injury make it online? I know he had an IM rod placed, but that's it. Watching the replay and knowing he had that kind of hardware, I cannot imagine a scenario where his acceleration and lateral mobility is not affected. If not immediately, then it falls off a cliff in a few seasons. I would not want to be the team that gives him a 10x7. Especially not at the cost of Sam.

Correct me of I'm wrong but did he just say he knows for a fact Treliving is looking to trade for a top 3 forward?

I'm listening to the interview. No, he doesn't know for a fact, he's just hearing that Treliving was furiously working the phones after the Edmonton loss on Sunday. That's no surprise given what we know how Treliving works.
He also confirmed that Yzerman is listening to offers for Stamkos, and that the situation needs to be figured out.
I didn't come away from the interview feeling that Spector has insider knowledge beyond speculation from Toronto.

Sounds like Russell and Hudler are being shopped fairly heavily. Also sounds like a lot of teams would take Russell

Russell seems to be a bit small which makes him almost a liability when he isn't blocking shots. No issues with him being shopped but who will replace him? We need more size.

Would rather keep Russell over Wideman and that's considering both are being shopped. But I bet you that's the reason they are getting more calls on Russell is because he's the better player + leser cap hit.
What would 50% retained Wideman fetch? I mean if less productive Brayden Coburn got a top 6 D + 2015 1st + 2015 3rd, what would Wideman get?
And if Russell is the "better player" and receiving more intrest than Wideman what can he get straight up??

Trading Wideman now doesn't make sense, he still has one more year and he's being paid to put up points which he's doing even though the team is losing. If they are in the same position next year at the deadline, shopping him would make more sense.
Trading Russell now makes more sense, he's always just one blocked shot away from an injury and his value is at about as good as it'll get. This team needs a change and if we could somehow turn Russell into a top 6 winger it would really help the team out.

On a side note, I thought Spector came across as a bit gleefully smug during that interview, can tell as an Oilers guy he's enjoying the combination of a crappy Flames start and McJesus finally getting going.
But I'm sure back in the spring Pinder probably sounded similar during their talks when the shoe was on the other foot, probably just the way she goes.

Trading Wideman right now absolutely makes sense, especially if Treliving is about to sign Monahan and Gaudreau to big contracts.
Wideman will not repeat last season. Sell high, if possible.
Of course, with his NTC, Wideman controls his own fate.
