I'm on the train. From the people's reaction outside it doesn't look good

Yeah, if you can avoid the area, I'd advise that you do so as much as possible.

Total disaster if you're heading south. Uber or cab much better options. They barely have shuttles going anywhere. Based off the scene at Chinook it's looking like a death

EMS say a pedestiran has died after being struck by a CTrain at a pedestrian crossing near Chinook station.
Stuart Brideaux said EMS responded just before 4:30 to the 6100 block along the LRT in the vicinity of the Chinook platform.
"An adult is deceased at that scene and will not be transported," he said. "As a result of being struck by a train."

If your stuck at Chinook walking is going to be faster than waiting for a bus. All of the buses stop at 39th then Chinook so are full when they get there

Its the pedestrian crossing not the platform

Running to get to the platform so you don't miss your train. the crossing this occurred at used to be separated from grade. So while making waiting at the platform safer at night and the station nicer in general it did contribute to this incident

I got evicted from the train at 39th. Saw about a saddledome worth of people waiting for a shuttle, then decided to hoof it to Chinook from there.

In the 30 minute walk down MacLeod I saw 5 shuttles... Kind of a joke if you ask me...

As for the person who got hit, it's incredibly sad, but come on people... Squishy Human VS 30 ton Train.... I see this daily at SAIT... People get off the train and RUN to the crossing instead of waiting 10 seconds.... Is your life worth 10 seconds? The last 2 days the train I had just got off almost hit two impatient people.

I haven't taken the train since March and today was the 1 day I had to take it because I brought my car into the dealership this morning. Of course it's my luck this happened. Was booted off the train at 39th to thousands of people waiting for shuttle buses that just didnt' appear.

Walked across Mcleod to take the 10 and hundreds more people showed up. Ended up taking an uber car from the Subaru shop.

Amazing service from uber, that's all I have to say.

Got off at 39th at 5:15, got on shuttle by 5:50. Now reaching Heritage at 6:20.

And apparently the trains are back up again.

Trains just started as I got off the shuttle at heritage. So the southbound trains were already half full by the time they reached heritage to pick up the mass of people. What a joy.

Thoughts and prayers. Hopefully we can get a support group set up for you right away. The person who was struck likely did this on purpose, just to ruin your day.

A single empty LRT car weighs about 45 tons. A loaded C-train would probably be something like 175 tons.

Likely different circumstances but I was on a C-train years ago that hit somebody at roughly the same location. People were launched into the air inside the train at the sudden braking. Voice of the driving on the intercom was pretty shakey.

Everybody had to wait for a while and ultimately hop off and walk to the station. You could see the blanket covering up the body and police directing people away from it.

Story was that it was somebody from one of the rehab centers nearby choosing death by train - probably close to a decade ago now.
