I thought it was speculated that the Flames were trying nicely to get him to retire.

He may just as easily be content with an easier assignment. Morning reports a couple of days a week is a lot easier than travelling on the road for months, calling games for 3 hours a night 82 times, doing pregame and postgame reports, and so on.
He wouldn't be the first guy to retire, but then take a part time job to ease into retirement.

It's too bad he doesn't do the reports on Fan960. Way more Flames fans listening there who miss him dearly.

I don't mind Wills play call but he just doesn't seem to have Maher's knowledge. I much preferred Maher in the morning to Willsl.

Well I know Maher is well respected and all but he had to be one of the worst PBP guys I ever heard.
booooring!
also, what a terrible title "Flames Insider" .. more like "Flames media speak guy". He never shared a single bit of "inside" info, just news that was either already reported or filtered by the club.
the guy would have plenty of inside information to share but never did.
wish him well with his part time job but glad he is off the Flames broadcast.

Yeah I miss Peter too, but Wills is doing a fantastic job IMO. It's hard to expect him to have the same knowledge of the Flames that Peter did as he's only been with the team for 1 year. Peter had 33 years of knowledge to draw back on.
I wish Peter well, but I am glad the Flames have a young, energetic PBP guy.
That being said, I certainly hope he went on his own terms. Wouldn't look good on the Fan 960 and Rogers of they suggested he retire.

Pete was classy enough not to divulge things that shouldn't be aired in public on the radio. People expect insiders to spill the beans on everything, and somehow maintain a positive relationship with the team, it doesn't work that way.

Maher was amazing. He did begin to get a bit sloppy at the end, and his voice changed a bit (dentures?).
Willis sounds too much like Ned Flanders. He is better than when he started but still has a weird upswing when he gets excited.

Yeah Peter Maher was great, one of the better announcers for sure. I'm not sure what it is about Wills, but I profoundly dislike his style.

Considering it has been a full year and just taking a part time gig probably means he is just probably looking for something to keep him busy. Probably also gives him an excuse to kick around the dome (to be honest don't know what he is doing).
Doing a quick google search on XL 103 it appears to be owned by Newcap radio (Newfoundland Capital Corporation) from out in the Maritimes. Might have something to do with it.
