Well if the Flames have to give up heaven and earth to get Stamkos then of course its not as desirable.

If Bennett is the main piece going the other way it'd be easy to pull the trigger on that deal.

If they get blown out again on Friday, I'm switching to a Jets avatar.

I really hope we don't move Bennett. I would be gutted. I think he has serious potential. He hasn't even played half a season in the league. We would be taking a huge risk. Especially sending him to the eastern conference to play with drouin Johnson palat hedman bishop etc.
I think he would thrive there.

I'd like us to hang on to our highest ever drafted player.

Stamkos is good. Yes. He is a risk though. Did you guys watch the playoffs.? He's young but he's a very one dimensional and streaky player. In my opinion he will probably never score 50 again let alone 60. I think he's a power play player right now. Not worth 10m or Bennett. Stay away.

He still had 43 goals last year. He has 5 goals in 7 games so far this year.

I think the issue was that he was given less than stellar linemates and the Johnson line ate into his opportunities. Also, scoring in the league as a whole was down. Stamkos was still 2nd in the league in goals.

Apart from Ovechkin, he's still the best goal scorer in the league. Druin appears to have come into his own, which should put Stamkos numbers back up.

I like Hudler, not at those dollars. If he's willing to essentially take Jones' dough, then I'd keep him. Otherwise, no thanks.

Stamkos may not be completely happy in Tampa.

Quote:
On Monday, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported that one of the big issues may not be term or money, but position. Stamkos wants to play center and guaranteeing that on Tampa’s end could create a problem.
Stamkos prefers to play centre, which creates a top-six logjam with Valtteri Filppula and triplet Tyler Johnson. It sounds like the Lightning would prefer Stamkos to play on the wing to ease that issue. From what I’ve been told, the discussions were professional, but both organization and player remain searching for common ground.
Which also means he'd want to play centre here not RW as some suggest. Monahan would need to step down a line too. I wouldn't have any problem with that and it goes without saying that negotiations with Stamkos' agent would be done before any trade is done.

I would have no issue at all with a 30 goal monahan behind a 50 goal stamkos.

is Filppula also demanding to play centre, and due to age seniority he gets dibs, thereby forcing a trade to Calgary? why is this an issue? Drouin is a playmaker anyways, so it's fine for Stamkos to remain the shooter.

Lots of Lightning fans saying that Stamkos is not strong enough defensively to cover the responsibilities of the position the way the coach demands.

I get the feeling Stamkos will sign with the Leafs this summer

If this trade were to be made it would come across to me as a knee-jerk reaction to a 1-5 start.

Could it work out well for the Flames? Possibly. But it's very risky as Bennett could turn out to be an elite #1 center in this league. Remember all those years Iggy played without an elite center?

Flippula is arguably better in his own end than he is in the O-zone. And he's always a threat offensively.

Stamkos is already an elite #1 center.. and only 25

Not sure what you are trying to say here.. Gaudreau can POTENTIALLY play with an elite #1 center in Bennett OR he can ALREADY play with an elite #1 center.... BT is not going to be silly enough to just give away Bennett without insuring that Stamkos will re-sign.

he's never scored more than 25 goals or 66 points and is currently on the career downswing. in order to play him over Stammer at centre, he'd have to be like the greatest defensive wizard of all time to justify the difference in offense.

didn't Yzerman transform himself from pure offense to elite 2-way? why can't that be done with the younger Stevie?

Don't car about Stamkos rumour. It's not happening. I'm a little concerened about what Hudler is asking for. I don't blame him for going for the moon, but i can't see him getting re-signed with the flames, for a long term contract at $5 million let alone $7 million.

Spector claiming that Hudler is demanding $7M? This feels eerily familiar to Kypreos' "breaking" info that Hamilton was demanding $7.5M.
