Agree 100%. If Hiller were to be injured that would leave us with a Gillies/Ortio tandem. Too much pressure for two young goaltenders I think.

The 3rd goalie also chews up a roster spot and more than one player is about to return from IR. Have to think this is also the reason it is happening.

Couldn't trade him to Buffalo?

Going into the season, I would have preferred Ramo/Ortio, but right now i don't think it really mattered which one you waived. Just had to make a decision and live with it. Unfortunately neither Hiller nor Ramo took advantage of the opportunity they had. With the Flames finally making a decision, at least there is some stability in the crease now. Goalies shouldn't play as scared now, and hopefully Ortio gets a chance to show his stuff.

I like Ramo, but someone had to move to get the 3 headed mess solved.

He has a big contract for a team to take on. Buffalo has the cap space, but goaltending hasn't really been their problem so far. They've only allowed more than 3 goals in one game so far.
Columbus has had bad goaltending, but they don't have the cap space to fit Ramo's contract.

I really hope he doesn't end up taking starts from Gillies down in Stockton.

That too.
That's a lot of salary to pick up via waivers though.

I liked Ramo last year and he has spurts of looking really good but the consistency was not there. Not a Hiller fan but he's a better option to platoon or backup than Ramo.

It's the only option. No one is trading for him

I'd say a trade with retained salary is a lot more likely than a waiver claim.

I highly doubt it. Who wants him? No one. He's not an up and comer, he's not been good in the NHL ever and he's even worse this year. What team would he help???

I would agree, or a trade with a salary dump coming back. Either way, something needed to be done. Unfortunately, this doesn't really do much to pull the team out of this malaise. The poor goaltending isn't the only reason they sit at 1-5.

Ramo played well against Anaheim in the playoffs, so it was tough for management to risk losing him for nothing, especially after Hiller was far from great. Can't blame them for the 1-year contract when it doesn't cripple the team.
I just hope Ortio finally gets a good look and this team finds consistent goaltending.
I also hope that this is a wakeup call to the players. You never like to see a guy like that get sent down.

If someone wants to pick him up on waivers, can they ask the Flames to retain some salary? Or does it have to become a trade at that point.
