Even without the non confidence votes the bloc or any small party gets a disproportionate amount of power to prop up one of the two main party. It drives politics further from the middle.

I'm not in support of the Liberals' deficit spending plan, but let's not pretend that $10B/yr is way beyond our means. It's about half a percent of GDP. It's not like some guys making $100K a year going out and getting a million dollar mortgage.

My concern with it instead is that deficits are much harder to get off of than get on to. My spidy senses go off when I hear that they'll just do it for 3 years and then get back to a balanced budget.

What I learnt tonight-

I'm not so surprised it happened but surprised how much the other leaders seemed to expect a Liberal majority.

Nothing shocking about the Cons turnout at all.

The NDP fell a little further than I thought they would.

I can't believe how well the Bloc did in seats, even more surprising when their popular vote continues to decline.

Surprised the greens popular vote went down, I'm thinking that is the mark of being a small party in a very very tight race. I think it will almost certainly rebound next time and continue an upward trend.

Yes, but I highly doubt JT has the balls to do the same. I'll be pleasantly surprised if he does.

Electing the first Liberal MP in Calgary since 1968 is a pretty big deal. The Liberals need to try and build on that and hopefully they see it as an opportunity and Calgary benefits.

Is anyone? Let's not kid ourselves. Putin doesn't give two ***** who the Canadian Prime Minister is.

Harper telling Putin to get out of the Ukraine was nothing but the mouse that roared. It was not Reagan telling Mr. Gorbachev to tear down that wall.

Edit: would like to revise "is anyone" to "does it really matter".

And what did Harper's message accomplish exactly? I'm glad that Trudeau is clear on his position regarding Putin and Russia, but I don't care if he says anything to his face or not. We're just not that important for him to care

So you don't care if JT is a man of his word or not. Or you just swallow his nonsense campaign rhetoric without question.

If you drill down in the numbers it was 4 way splits in Quebec that allowed the liberals to win 47. Which you wouldn't normally get with 40% popular vote.

I'm willing to take a wait and see approach with the new Liberal government. To be honest, I'm just thankful it wasn't an NDP government.

Now Notley can release the dreaded budget and not have it affect Mulcair's campaign. Still afraid of what I might see...

The CPC ####ed themselves badly with the Niqab. Using that allowed for a 4 way split. What a disastrous campaign they ran, pretty much handed it to the Liberals who gladly took it.

It will take a small miracle for our budget not to be a dumpster fire. I'm not kidding.

I took his comments more as his stance against Putin. But see this is why the conservatives failed, focusing on such inconsequential issues that mean nothing. I'm more concerned with Trudeau following up on his promises of electoral vote reform and transparency in government, stuff that actually matters. If he does that then I really don't care what he does or doesn't say to Putin
