Yes and did have a 8 game L streak in there as well

The Jack Adams means precisely nothing when evaluating coaching decisions.

The previous two winners (Patrick Roy and Paul MacLean) don't make me think that the award is proof of being top coach

Sure, but at least you saw Hartley get nearly universal buy-in last year and make sound decisions for most of his tenure, leading the Flames to the playoffs in a year where almost every analyst not named Ward had them competing for McDavid.

Jack Adams or not, I would think that gives him a little leeway in a handful of games to start the season, no?

It's going to be very interesting to see how Smid plays after so long.

I mean, it's not like he was spry before the injury.

I would say Hartley was a major reason for culture and work ethic which along with some good fortune and a better roster than people thought was the reason for the Flames resurgence.

I would not give him credit for many good roster/lineup moves

I guess that is one way to look at it. I just disagree with that assessment. If a coach is not consistently making good roster/lineup changes, then that team shouldn't make the playoffs.

I am not stating that Hartley is above any criticism - I just think that he has earned some benefit of the doubt, and SOME of what I classify as 'over-reactionary' posts are very premature at this time.
