And Oritio has shown he can steal games already. You don't get that with Ramo and Hiller, and the Flames need that right now.

I'd still like to know if anyone has watched any practices - last year there were a few posters who reported in. Hartley seems to be greatly influenced by practice performance. I'm not saying this is the case with Ortio, but just wondering. Certainly his preseason performance was on par with the other guys.

Re: Ramo starting. My best guess is that Hartley doesn’t want to start Ortio while the team is playing this poorly. Risks sewering him.
This seems like a reasonable explanation.

If you're an ortio supporter that should make you happy, I think that can easily be interpreted as one of Hiller and Ramo needs to step up because Ortio isn't the one leaving

That does seem like a decent explanation.
The goaltending hasn't been solid, but the team in front of them has been even worse.

Or possibly he hates that Oreo nickname as much as most of us do and would rather never hear it.

Well if Hartley keeps ignoring Ortio and keeps playing the other 2 chumps then Hartley might be the one out the door, which won't be bad news either.

Nooooo. That's the main attraction of the night tomorrow! Still haven't seen him play in person. If anything sabotage Hiller and Ramo.

Also IIRC Hiller and Ramo each split the first 10 games last year, before they gave the Reigns to Hiller at the 10 game mark. (with a somewhat uninspiring 5-4-1 record).
Wonder if they had a similar plan to start this year but both goalies are playing poorly.
In the end it's likely that One goalie wins the spot, Ortio becomes the backup, and the other goalie gets sent to the moon.

They earned it by guiding the team to the playoffs and winning a round last year.
TBH Ortio hasn't earned anything yet and if it wasn't for his waiver status he would be sent down already.

Or Ortio is actually the 3rd string goalie in the eyes of the Flames Coaching staff.

What musical chairs? Wouldn't you need Ortio to be a participant to call it that? So far it's just two guys taking having a contest to see who can play the worst. A more apt description of the season so far would be a reality show called "The Softest Goal".

The team was hardly guided to the playoffs by goaltending last year. Our goaltending was pretty much exactly average from both goalies.

That may be the case but something has to happen here.
They clearly don't want all 3 goalies on the roster.
Ortio must be staying or else he would have been the one on waivers already.
That means something must have to happen with one of the veterans.

I hope Ortio doesn't take any steps. It's a long fall from the pressbox.
Someone's going to have to explain to me how he's supposed to "take a step" or "prove himself" without actually playing.
There's very little separating Ramo and Hiller, we don't need a month of this season to tell us that. Just move which ever one is easier to move.

I don't see how it makes a difference one way or the other if the choice is between Hiller or Ramo right now. Both have not been very good. But if I had to pick, I would say that the best of five poor starts from our goaltenders belongs to Ramo and his last game against Winnipeg.

It was either that one or the OT win that Hiller played in. 2 good (not great, good) performances out of 5 games.

Agreed 3 goalies is not an ideal situation.
Ramo & Hiller are both pending UFAs. I would think one of them is the most likely candidate to be moved.
Before long Ortio is going to be a problem as he has not seen any game action.
