If this keeps up the debate will shift from this being a bust of a pick to worrying about him not signing.

Not sure about 70% over the whole season, but yes he has been traditionally strong in faceoffs in the past seasons.

First 2 games he got crushed by Sean Kuraly (prospect that San Jose sent to Boston as part of the Martin Jones trade). Kuraly is known to be excellent in faceoffs, however a few times he did get away from Kuraly and won the faceoff that led directly to goals.

Not sure about the Holy Cross game, but he was much better in faceoffs compared to Miami (48% vs the ~30% against Miami)

Another thing to keep in mind was that Providence had some options other than Jankowski last year with Mauermann and Accari to take faceoffs, so if he didn't match well with a particular C, they had some other decent faceoff men.

Will keep an eye on it.

Jankowski faceoff stats:

2012-13: .458
2013-14: .539
2014-15: .581
2015-16: .316

http://www.friars.com/sports/m-hocke...ki_821022.html

this year's numbers are obviously a small sample size (yesterday's game also not included yet).

If Janko jeeps this scoring pace up, Feaster's Flames legacy will get another shot in the arm!

I think you meant to say Weisbrod.

Or.. ya know.. Tod Button.

People take the Weisbrod story way too far out of context. Feaster's MO since the beginning was to let the amateur scouting department do their thing with a true prospect list.

I'm really pleased to see Janko's offense finally catching up to the rest of his development. I have only seen him play a handful of times, but he always looks to be in the right spot, has excellent and smooth skating which is a HUGE asset in the NHL, is big enough that he won't get run over (don't mistake him for a physical player).

His development early on was clearly focused on systems play and defensive acumen, since those are underdeveloped in the league he was drafted from. He's such a late bloomer that he needed to catch up on some fundamentals that most kids his age had already been taught. Now that he has that part of his game down he can focus on exploring his offensive talents, which were always there. He's got a better than average shot, but his true talent comes from his vision and passing skills. He's not Gaudreau, but he's a solid player when it comes to creating offense.

Now all we need to do is let him marinate in the minors until he's ready for a full time gig.

Even if he turns out to be a good third liner, I'll never forget the embarrassing gushing about "best player from this draft" and the comparisons to Nieuwendyk. That was a watershed moment for me, it became obvious we were being run by a couple of fan boys rather than true professionals. The rest of the league was laughing at us and so many were just eating it up. That embarrassing moment was only topped by the O'Reilly debacle as far as hurting the team's reputation goes.

I guess what I'm saying is I'm not giving Feaster credit for that unless Janko becomes a #1 center (or at least a very good #2). In the meantime, I'm going to keep trying to forget the first round of that draft even happened. However, I should point out I still like Janko and want him to succeed. I only say this because I'd like to avoid having my words twisted or my post taken out of context (not by you necessarily).

Agreed, but it's very encouraging that he's taken solid steps forward every season. I think he's one of those guys that will maybe keep developing steadily every year, and might not reach his full potential until he's near 30.

I's all in how you want to look at it. He is one month older than Monahan.

I imagine Monahan would be putting up about 2 PPG in college which is what Jankowski is currently doing.

In this case it was Weisbrod's call.

Even if it was Weisbrod's call, he was't alone. Someone else on the scouting staff must have been pretty excited about Jankowski, to tell Weisbrod to make a special trip to see him play.

Let's not get into this debate again please. It's probably occurred at least 3 separate times in this thread alone.

Are you looking at that as being a positive for Jankowski?

Isn't the fact that he is basically the same age as Monahan and one guy is playing great in the NHL and the other may finally be starting to play better than average at college a little concerning for the 2nd players potential at the NHL level?

Monahan producing as he is at the NHL leve is an outlier. Plus he was also picked way higher.
