Carrying three goalies is a bad idea, they need to move one ASAP and get on with things. Competition is healthy, but I don't think having this cloud hanging over them is helping.

As counter intuitive as it might seem, the longer it goes that they don't play Ortio while still keeping him up, the less that means they are concerned with seeing what he's got. To me that means they likely do think he's the 3rd best option, but have essentially decided he will be the back up.
The other two are fighting for the starter role (for now) and they will either move or demote the loser. Can't see any other reason to keep Ortio up and not want to risk him to waivers but also not throw him in the competition for net. Unless of course they are shopping him and as a young goalie they feel he can only hurt his value by playing.

Ramo reminds me a bit of Fred Brathwaite, fun to watch but poor consistancy. I actually don't mind Hiller's consistancy, but he reminds me more of Roman Turek in the sense that he's consistent (IMO, many probably disagree) but not really that great.

Makes a lot of sense, good comparison. And Roman was one of our best backups, albeit an expensive one.

After that dog crap of a goal in addition to the 5 goals against the Canucks, i know which goalie I want to waive... I never understood this loyalty to Ramo from Hartley... His numbers have always been mediocre at best..
I'm so pissed off right now....

Be pissed at the team for scoring 1 goal on only 20 shots. Ramo was 29/31, even if the timing of that goal was a back-breaker his saves in the 2nd and early 3rd were the only reason it was even tied.

Last year I preferred Ramo, he just seemed like the more consistent of the two. So far in the very early going this year, I'm feeling more comfortable with Hiller. Either way, this isn't the answer longterm. I'd like to see Ortio get the start tonight.

And?
Every once and a while a bad or mediocre goalie will have a game like that. The same goes for bad or mediocre players.

Tonight would be a good night to see Ortio get a start. Flames have to see if he is even worth a pressbox assignment. In order to trade one of Hiller or Ramo, Hartely has to know if Ortio can be at the very least a 1b goalie. The problem is, flames can't play the season with a 1b goalie and a back-up. They at the very least need 2, 1B goalies. It's quite obvious now that Hartley does not see Ortio as a true starting goaltender, otherwise Ortio would be playing. I don't believe that Hartley is the kind of guy to showcase a player for trade value. He is there to win. I wonder if Hartely even see's potential of Ortio being a 1b goalie for this year?

The problem with hiller is that his style is to block shots not smother the puck. That means rebounds, and this defence isn't capable of dealing with that all the time. He was figured out in he playoffs and now I'm not confident he fits this team gking forward. I think it's time to play Ortio as his style fits the team better, and he needs to have a shot now so the organization knows what they have.

The problem is you can't play either Hiller or Ramo to create value in their trade stock. Playing either/both only continues to drop it.

Both vets have let in bad goals at bad times already in the young season. Give Ortio a shot

If I was a rival team in need of a starter, even on a temporary/emergency basis, I sure wouldn't give up anything of significance for either of Ramo or Hiller. Why give up an asset when you can find a comparable replacement level goalie for free?

When did Ortio even play his last game? I'd like to see him play too but he could be rusty after sitting.

Ya pretty much. Both theor stocks are so low right now. Really curious to see when this drop dead date to deal with the situation ( waive one) will be.

Ortio needs to start on Tuesday against Washington. If he does well he can keep playing. If he plays poorly hopefully a message is sent to Hiller and Ramo that they need to step up their game.
