Thanks for all the advice and support guys. I never knew how much this stuff meant to me until it was all gone. Most of it can be replaced, but it's the things that can't be replaced that makes me so upset. The thought of all these things underneath a mound of garbage at the dump makes me sick. I just don't want these people to do this again, so if you ever need a storage unit, delete by mod

Does anybody know how one could find out if this company has done something like this before?

Canadian laws are more accepting of questionably-obtained evidence. Evidence only gets excluded if it brings the adminstration of justice into disrepute, or something. I'd bet that a conversation you tape with them would be allowed. Definitely doesn't hurt to tape any future conversations you have with them. Then at the very least, if you can't use it in court, you can always hand it over to one of those consumer watch programs and ruin the reputation of the company.

Please don't use the specific company name in the posts with reference to asking people not to use the business. It can create legal problems fort his site.

I'd say call the Better Business Bureau.
Maybe if there are any trade associations?

There is no requirement to advise someone that they are being recorded.

There is no expextation of privacy once he starts talking to him. If he was recording someone else while he was not present then yes it would not be admissible AND he could be charged criminally.

Go to the media! Nothing like a little investigative reporting to put the gears to any company that tries to bully customers. This sounds like something the media would be all over.

Why can't we see the name of the place so that we all know not to do business with this place?

There is no law against posting a story about a company on a public forum, false or not, and calgarypuck can in no way be held responsible for any slander posted by its members. Otherwise Craig MacTavish would have sued the pants off of this place long ago

As Bingo has noted in the past this site has been sued for comments made by posters. So it can happen.

Better safe than sorry.

If that's the case then you definitely have a great case.

That guy who worked at a storage facility said that you're entitled to any profits past whatever fees you owe. If they're very clearly leaving out several items that would sell for a lot of money it says a lot about the character of the company.

Troutman never did reply to this thread... I don't know why but I'm curious as to what legal course of action you will take RMS. Keep us posted on the outcome of this one!

Yeah, I'll keep you guys updated.

I guess no hockey for me this year, it'll be kind of hard to play without any equipment...

But thanks for the help everybody, and feel free to pm me to learn which company this was.
