1981 Buick Skylark 2 door - Similar to the one linked. It was a neighbour's that was sitting in their yard and had been crashed and put through a barbed wire fence. I brought it back from the dead (carb rebuilt and hours of body work).
1966 Vauxhall Viva - Put a Buick V-6 in it and was probably not really safe to drive, but boy was it fun.
1984 4 door K car - Thing was bullet proof. Bought it for $100 and sold it for $100.
1989 Plymouth Acclaim - At least it had the V-6.
2007 Honda Element EX - Great vehicle, except under-powered.
2006 Mazda 6 Sport Wagon - One of the most enjoyable vehicles I've owned. Auto sector: Bring back good wagons!
1999 Jeep Cherokee - This was an "always wanted to drive/own one" purchase.
Current stable:
2004 Maxda Tribute DX - Hail damaged since August and likely it's days are numbered.
2012 Hyunda Elantra Touring - Great little car but bit boring.
Cars linked are similar in colour and model to what I owned.

I have a 2015 Autobahn 2 door. But I really, really want the PP. The brakes, mech diff lock and adaptive suspension alone are worth $6-7k if you did it after the fact. Not bad for a $2k option. Plus the 2016 got a pile of new tech, better head unit with car play, lane assist, auto collision braking, adaptive cruise, auto parking etc, etc.....
Pretty stoked, it's gonna be a long two months. I spec'd out a real oddball car. Every option except leather and DSG in a 2 door. Had to factory order it, as nobody has the car in stock. DSG is quicker, but I still prefer to row my gears. And if you Flash the car to an ungodly HP/Torque number, a clutch is way cheaper than a DSG replacement if something breaks. And that tends to be the weak point on flashed cars.
I always change cars a lot, but this one will likely be a keeper. It is bespoke to what I want, as I usually just grab something sitting on our lot. So I have a feeling this may end up eventually going to stage 3 and getting some Golf R wheels, and likely some other tasteful bits added to it.

DSG can hold about 450-500 ft lbs before the clutches wear out quickly. I prefer it to tuning a MK6 manual because most guys end up replacing their clutch right after tuning to Stage 1 or 2. I only got the auto because my wife drives the car, but its actually a pretty amazing transmission. Did they beef up the manual clutch in the MK7s?

Fine, I just don't want the ladies transmission OK? LOL
Real men row gears. I will be very sad when my left foot is phased out of the driving experience. DSG is to video gamey to me. I started with a clutch pedal, I am hoping they stick around long enough my last car will have one. But I have my doubts.

I have 13k on mine and it was tuned the day I got it, and it is still grabbing very low. I have done about 5 cars with APR software, and never had issues. However, I am more the roll-on power type. I am not doing massive launches with my cars. The real fun about the power in the mid range punch and passing power. The car really shines when you are twisting it up.
A couple months ago I had mine on the 1A and had a guy behind me in a Boxster S. We were doing the unspoken 'co-operating' thing, taking turns in the lead. He couldn't shake me in corners, and I was pulling away from him huge after every apex. He just couldn't keep up. The mid range is where APR shines the most. When I pulled into Ghost Lake for a breather, he followed me in and started asking me about the car. I let him take it for a spin.....
Should be selling him a car in the next few months. He's just trying to decide Golf R, or GTI PP.

I haven't heard of many clutches burning out early on mk6's and 7's even with tunes.
My r has 105k. Stg2. It's on original clutch & feels like new.
Granted my old r32t went through 4 clutches in that time lol.

OT, but were you on Blackfoot and 58th Ave at around 11:00 pm about 2 or 3 nights ago? Some dude in a black MK6 Golf R was trying to goad me into racing him. I could tell the car wasn't 'stock'. I was tempted, but didn't bite.... That could've got hairy. LOL

Different strokes for different folks, but no matter how you cut it, my front drive GTI with an APR tune, has beat the snot out of a new Golf R stock. For about 10k less. And regardless of AWD, it would do the same on a track, the gap is that long. AWD won't make up for the power difference.

That's the thing, I don't go to the track, and haven't cared about lining up in a straight line against anyone for about a decade. I really wouldn't care who's car is a few seconds faster around the Nurburgring.
I just care how much I smile in a car, and having been in modded GTI's and a stock Golf R, I don't care if it's slower, I'd have more fun every day in the R.
For the record, this isn't me knocking GTIs at all. I'd own/drive one in a heart beat. They are fantastic cars. If I was shopping that segment though, I'd go Focus RS/Golf R over modded Focus ST/GTI every time.
EDIT: Just saw your transmission comments. Kind of the same logic for me. I know the manual is going to be slower and likely worse on fuel, but I have more fun with it, so I agree, manual all the way. Plus I found DSG a bit jerky at low speed maneuvers like parking sometimes.

I don't disagree that AWD has it's advantages, but I am also a huge sleeper/value fan. I love cheaper cars that will absolutely embarrass cars twice the price. If I could have an AWD GTI for another 2-3k, I'd do it in a heart beat. But the way I spec out my cars, It would be 8-10k to go to the R.
But.... I think your impression of FWD cars is seated about a decade ago. Nowadays, at least on our stuff, torque steer, hopping, and understeer is non existent. 99% of people wouldn't be able to tell the difference between an AWD R and a FWD GTI. Especially unless they were pushing it to the absolute limit. And with what you are saying about your driving habits, you'd actually probably be better off in the GTI. Especially with the new adaptive suspension, the car handles like full on sports car.

Nope, though mine is black. I actually was headed home around that time, but took Barlow to Deerfoot to Memorial.

1992 Plymouth Laser RS - Fun little car, but unreliable and parts were expensive. Eventually the engine imploded.
2006 Mazda 3 - Good car. GF has a newer one and I like them.
2011 Ford Escape - Certainly not an exciting car but checks all the boxes nicely.
Would really like to get a Sunday driver...but I can't even make up my mind with where to begin.

Love garrets on mk4s. Did you do the standard walbro pump and S4 injectors to keep up to the guzzling?
I did up an mk4 with a gt28rs. Too bad it was fwd. Even with an aftermarket LSD, I could not launch.
