It's pretty rare that I straight up disagree with your write ups (though I always appreciate them)! The shot clock was misleading in the first. The Blues had a ton of harmless shots from the outside Tarasenko had like 5 on his own, guy shoots from everywhere. I'd say the Flames were the better team in the first period overall despite their PP not really clicking.

I don't think the 4-3 score was flattering to the Flames at all. Yes they got dominated in the 2nd. But they dominated the 3rd. And it's not like the Blues had a ton of chances that they should have scored on. If anything the Flames should have capitalized on a few more of their chances, 2 on 1s that missed the net etc.

Two wrist shots through traffic that somehow found a way behind Hiller were the difference.

As Bingo said the Blues were in prevent mode in the third. I thought the 4-3 score was flattering for the Flames as the Blues were in control.

As also said, Bennett is looking really good, just no points yet.

Radio guys on the way home had polar views of the game as well ... I think Steinberg was more in my camp, Wills was thinking more your way.

The whole game had the feel of a polished team dictating the tempo and a younger team taking whatever scraps they could find.

Not a great effort from the Flames in my mind.

I think if Bouma is going to be out a while (looks like it is the case) I would call up Granlund and bench Backlund for 1 game. Something is out of sorts there, and if it is another niggling injury, the last thing the Flames need is to wear Backlund into the ground this early in the season.

Roll the bottom 2 lines as:

Ferland - Stajan - Jones
Bollig - Granlund - Jooris

Jooris gets to draw back in and bring the sandpaper/PK that Bouma would provide, and he can help out should Granlund struggle in the faceoff dot. Even if it is just for that one game so Backlund doesn't play both days of the back to back

Backlund struggled last season as he was arguably their worst forward so maybe this is just what he is. I can't remember a Flame ever that's been handed as much rope as Backlund as every year the team gives him the opportunity to grab the 2nd line center job and he just doesn't seem capable of seizing the opportunity. I believe we should just come to grips with what he is which is an average skilled player with a ceiling of 3rd or 4th line center. This issue on this team is that Stajan is better so he's not going to see a lot of ice time.

That seems like a stretch, no?

Right now he seems lost, but in the past two plus seasons he's been injured more than I'd like but a solid contributor otherwise.

Gio not on the ice for the last 33 seconds - after the Flames timeout.

He looked exhausted after his last shift and Hartley did not buy time to get him breather time.

Hamilton only had 38 seconds of Ice in the last 4 minutes of the game.

It is officially middle of October.... when does Brodie come back and where does Hamilton play after Gio gets Brodie back as his D partner?
