Huh? Why would they want to do that? The guy came out of nowhere and EARNED a spot on the team. It's not like he has a huge anchor of a contract and he works his tail off night in and night out.

Anyway, here's to hoping Jankowski has a great year! If all goes well he can force some tough decisions at next year's training camp. Much like Jooris did.

I'm super excited about this. I realize it's an incredibly small sample but I really want to see him break out this year, it's a big year for him. I've never been down on Jankowski like some but I never had sky high expectations of him either, I just never really bought what Feaster/Weisbrod were selling. No reason to think he can't be a good player though, but probably not Joel Otto or Joe Nieuwendyk. I'm hoping for a bigger/faster version of Stephane Yell myself.

Weird...I thought this was Lance Bouma in a nutshell.

Janko isn't anywhere near as sacrificial and as utilitarian as Yelle was. He seems more Niewy to me, although he may not put up as many points. Smooth skating, tall, lanky, with great hands with the puck. Good attitude too.

Still think Colborne is a good comparison.

Have yet to see him use his body to his advantage much, hopefully it comes in time.

I still think Jankowski has much more upside than Colborne (and I like Colborne). Jankowski is just so much of a finesse player even with his size. I don't think Colborne ever had that kind of skill level that Jankowski has, but was much more of a 'sure thing' in his draft year - thus his draft position. Jankowski is so much more dynamic offensively, even if he hasn't been getting the points in the past.

Why is it terrible? Tell me in your opinion why he is so great. I don't think Jooris brings a bunch to the team. He had a hot streak last year and worked hard. I am just not a fan of his play.

It's terrible because this thread isn't about Jooris or the team's troubles. Your comment wasn't about Jankowski at all - it was a swipe at Jooris, and Jankowski was just the flimsy pretext you used to get there. This is just reinforced by your follow-up (quoted above), which doesn't even pretend to have anything to do with Jankowski

Let's see.....0.4 ppg (first rounder Sven Baertschi was roughly 0.45ppg) in the NHL in his rookie year, after forcing the Flames to put him on the team.

Always skates at 100%, he's fast, gritty, can forecheck, and has offensive upside. Hard to push off the puck, etc.

Once again the Flames find another undrafted kid and turn him into an NHL'er.

That enough for you? K, good, now back to Janko and his breakout season.

OK, I will make it clearer. I hope Jankowski has a great year and gets here as soon as possible. At that time the team can improve by removing bottom tier players, such as Jooris. People are mentioning Yelle etc., but because I picked out everyone's favourite player who works hard I am getting called out.

It doesn't really matter if you agree or not, I think he could replace a certain player right now.

Hope your right.
I never watched Joe in college but he had much better stats, when we aquired him from the Leafs though their fans said he showed flashes of greatness much like the SHG vs the Ducks.

Janko hasn't showed on a consistent basis that he's got more skill yet IMO. I personally don't think his potential is as high as some fans think. I doubt he ever gets 50 points for example. Hope I'm wrong though.

If/when Jankowski joins the Flames, I doubt he knocks a RW off the roster. But we'll see.

More importantly, regarding the development of Jankowski, we have seen him get stronger, and we have seen him excel with his 200 ft game.

What is needed, in order to get really excited about him as a prospect, is a breakout season offensively.

Nothing like a 4 pt night in game 1 to get that going in the right direction.

You think Janko could play wing? I know centers are valuable and we may lose stajan around the same time he may be ready for the nhl but he could be a good fit as a top 6 (or 9) wing. Too bad hes a left shot, he could fit well on the right side with mony and johnny

Well, if he does get 50+ pts, that would essentially make him a 1st/2nd line C.

Probably lots of room for him to be a very good NHLer, even without ever reaching that number.

Would Jankowski's time frame to turn Pro at the Calgary Flames be at the end of Backlunds contract? Future center lines in the next couple of years?

Monahan
Bennett
Arnold
Jankowski

If and when Jankowski pans out, he's a Stajan/Backlund replacement. Jooris isn't best as a centre IMO anyway, and they are entirely different players with different roles.

I like Stajan a lot but he's not getting younger. And even Backlund will be in the upper 20s when Jankowski is ready to play a big role.

Jankowski plays a full 200 ft game. He excels defensively, and he is good on the dot.

Conversely there is nothing about his game that says he would make a good winger.

IMO, he makes it as a C, or he doesn't make it.
