"We didn't see enough in him, thinking that let's say the difference between him and (Borna) Rendulic or possibly (Dennis) Everberg. We didn't see enough there," coach Patrick Roy said after practice.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen,” said Glencross, a victim of the NHL’s sudden youth movement.
“I’m trusting that God’s plan for me and my family is bigger than what I can understand at this point. It’s definitely a setback and heartbreak for me knowing that this could be the end. But again, I’m continuing to believe in God and trust that when one chapter ends a new one begins. As of right now, my wife and I need to sit down and weigh our options — wait it out to see if I get another chance in the NHL, explore some options in Europe or look for a job in Calgary? We love this city — it’s our home. So a new opportunity may be just around the corner.”

Glencross admitted he was surprised and touched by a Flames welcome on the Dome’s Energy Board that night that prompted a hearty applause in front of his family.
“I definitely had to take a moment to regroup when they did a little tribute to me at that game,” said Glencross who was released by the Avs on Monday. “That just goes to show the classiness of the Flames ownership group and the respect they have for their players. I’ll never forget that moment, and for that, I really want to say thanks to the team and the fans. I’ll always remember the support from the media and fans.”
Glencross says he likely wouldn’t consider the KHL or AHL as options and will continue skating with hopes another NHL team may come calling.
“I’m staying positive, but obviously, there are emotions there that I may never play another NHL game or hockey again,” said the 10-year NHL veteran who was never drafted. “But I look back, and it was a pretty good career. I’m thankful for that. We’ll make the best of whatever happens.”

He'll be in tough to get an NHL job again, but he did manage 10 years in the league which is more than the average, so he can't be too mad.
Good luck Curtis. Whatever road you pursue, I hope it makes you happy.

wow, 10 years. Also, he seems like a pretty simple guy so I'm sure monetarily he's less likely to have wasted it like others do.

The Blues signed Scott Gomez today but Glencross couldn't find work? I wasn't a huge fan of his, but this just doesn't seem right.

Some more quotes from Glencross today from Dreger:
http://www.tsn.ca/dreger-report-glen...-next-1.374441
Quote:
Released from professional tryouts in Toronto and Colorado, Glencross isn't bitter; he understands the business side of the sport and says the evolution of the salary cap is partly to blame as depth players have become the easiest to squeeze.
"I think seven or eight guys will get the money and the rest will go to entry-level players or younger guys which will take the middle class out," Glencross told the Dreger Report.
The veteran forward and father of three will have to be patient, hopeful a job will surface in the weeks ahead after NHL GMs have had time to assess their teams and perhaps, discover a void Glencross might be able to fill.
The past seven months have been surreal for Glencross. The whirlwind began in March when he agreed to waive his no-trade clause to go to Washington, ending his time in Calgary - a city and organization him and his family love. With a four-year, $10-million dollar contract with the Flames about to expire, and the promise of potentially bigger riches on the unrestricted free agent market looming, the future looked bright. So what happened?
Glencross remains somewhat baffled. Sure, he's lost a step, but there was interest in the summer and a belief a lucrative offer from the Colorado Avalanche was in the works.
“I really thought I was going to sign with Colorado in the summer,” he said. “I spoke with Patrick Roy on the phone for almost an hour. He said they wanted to sign a d-man first, so I waited and waited and waited and there was nothing."
Nothing from the Avs and no sense another team was interested enough to provide anything more than a tryout offer.

I'm happy Glencross praised the Flames organization without reservation. Showed his own class by doing that.
Just a side note though; the Flames are damn classy. I remember the Flames did a tribute to Selanne during his last game at the dome, and he had no connection with the club whatsoever. They just recognized a truly great talent and gave credit where it was due. Not to mention the Iggy tribute during his return as well was, in my opinion, extremely well done.
I hope Glencross gets a contract this year when a prospect doesn't develop as hoped, or a vet goes down early with injury. Those few games in WSH didn't do him any favors, but I still think he's got some hockey left in the tank. Best of luck to him, and there's no shame in playing in Europe either. That is high level hockey.

I'm not disagreeing that the Flames are one of the classiest franchises in the league however, most teams were doing Selanne tributes on his farewell season. Also there is a Flames connection as in '92 the flames Signed him to an offer sheet which WPG matched.

Celebrated Square Root Day
|
Yeah, if anything the Flames have missed some pretty big milestones that other teams would acknowledge in their home arena. Like when Sakic scored his 600th goal in Calgary.

Well as big of a milestone as it was, you don't really want to celebrate another team's achievements in your own arena.

You definitely don't do that.
Acknowledging his career in his last game, OK. But basically celebrating an enemy goal? Come on dude.

I remember when the Blues were honouring Brett Hull against us. Both teams presented him with paintings before the game and the Flames one was waaaaay nicer

Iggy is almost certain to pass 600 by the time we host the Avs in mid march (barring injury), but should there be any acknowledgement if he scores 611 to pass Hull, or less likely 626 to pass Sakic for 15th all time?

Iggy is indelibly linked to Calgary and the Flames so I say yes, we should acknowledge and celebrate his accomplishments.
As long as hes not on the Canucks or Oilers.

Everytime I think of Iggy's goal total I am happy for him and he'll be counted among the modern legends of the game. But I also get sad because of the two lockouts he had to sit through. I think he would have scored 50 goals in 2005, and probably an extra 10 to 20 goals in 2013. He could easily be at 650 right now, and round out his career around 700.
Oh those greedy billionaires and millionaires ruining career stats.

Some very classy and heartfelt quotes from Glencross. So glad the Flames and the fans at that game honored him in that way. For his sake, I hope he decides to go play a couple of years in Europe, make some good money and enjoy the life. I would take that deal.
Hypothetical question:
Would you swap out Raymond for Glencross, on the same contract? I am no Raymond fan but he does still have the wheels.

Thats a tough one. I'd almost certainly prefer Glencross over Raymond but he doesnt have the wheels to fit into that role but hes much better at everything else.
