Thanks for the write up. I thought Frolik was pretty much the only guy who had a good game all around.

Probably better that they lost 5-1 than bumble and stumbling their way to a 3-2 loss where they could say they were close. At least now they have to face the reality that they aren't good enough to coast through preseason and breeze through the regular season.

One more note in that I absolutely hate Bouma on the 2nd line. He had a nice career season last year but this guy isn't a top 6 forward on any team in this league. That will need to be corrected and the sooner the better.

Saturday will be a big game for me to see if this team still has that 'whatever it takes' attitude that made last year so much fun.

Clearly this game got away from them, but there is no way they should be going into Vancouver's barn with anything less than seething anger.

Hartley cut back the Monahan-Gaudreau-Hudler line to 6 shifts in the 3rd.... after they were tied up in their own zone by the Sedin line making it 3-1 with 5 seconds left in the 2nd.

As mentioned in the article Frolik was un-impressive... but somehow Hartley gave him more ice-time than Hudler.

Did Gio have as bad of a game out of the 60 he played last year?

His 21:09 was the the lowest TOI that he had all of last year except the 20:10 he had in a 5-0 win over Carolina.

Thoughts on moving Bennett to 2nd line LW? Small sample size, but he seems to have more drive with less responsibility on the wing.

Another note on Bouma... Was he even on the ice? I don't recall seeing much from him all preseason either... Hopefully he isn't smarting from the salary arbitration thing and obviously not getting the money he thought he should be getting...

Yeah, that might have been the worst game Giordano has played in over two years.

As mentioned numerous times in the PGT, Frolik was among the best players for the Flames last night.

I imagine they will move him around depending on how he fares at center. I personally would like them to keep him at center and face the ups and downs to improve. One game isn't much of a sample size to go off here so I wouldn't change things up until there's a trend that shows he's really struggling at center.

Given the sloppy and lethargic team effort, it's hard to evaluate Bennett's suitability at center, or anything else for that matter.

? Bennett was pretty much our best center last night...

Monahan had a really rough night. Lots of missed assignments and one backhanded no look pass in his own end to the middle onto a Canucks stick

Paul Romanuk ... sigh.

I couldn't believe that section in the second where he and Johnson ignored the play completely to talk about how special the Sedins are. It must have been 5 minutes. You see that in baseball but not hockey.

That's not saying a lot.

I guess I just meant, last year and limited viewings this year, he has more drive and rushes the net more when he's on the wing as opposed to center. A little less responsibility I suppose but the truth is that this is his natural position and he should find his rhythm. Also, it took me several tries to correctly spell rhythm.

Yeah. He often left large stretches in complete silence as well. I sometimes wondered if I had accidentally tuned into the Premier League.

Bouma had a noticeably quiet game last night, but I wouldn't go so far as to say he's never a top 6 on any team. The thing is with this club is there is a lot of depth at all 3 forward positions. It will take some time for the dust to settle and lines to be set.

I think the only thing that is "set" is the top line, and Russell+Wideman. Everything else is up for debate. You could potentially throw in the 4th line as "set", but 4th lines are always changing with callups and such.

Monahan also had the TOUGHEST assignments, so I give him tons of rope. He did create some chances though, not the least of which was the lone goal.

On a night when the whole team's head wasn't in the game, he did what he could IMO.

I'm not even certain Russell+Wideman will be 'set' once Brodie returns.

He wasn't the worst by far, sure. If you're the number 1 center, you better be able to play against the top lines.
