Besides all the love deserved Monahan is getting, I think it's worth mentioning how great this is for Wideman. After being a healthy scratch he came back to get 50+ points and get an A on his jersey near the end of the season. He earned it and Hartley didnt hold his earlier struggles against him.
I think it's safe to say that Hartley saved him from becoming another Glencross.

Yeah, I think Bennett fits better as captain. Either way they have a long wait before Giordano hands it over.

Out of curiosity, why? He didn't even captain the Frontenacs.

I just think Bennett would be more willing to speak up in the locker room. Monahan would probably be a quiet leader and lead by doing the right things on the ice. Which is fine, because Gio is like that, but I would prefer someone more outspoken. Either way both would be great choices.

@boringmonahan: Mark Giordano said well done for getting the A on my jersey and I said thanks. He said it's not quite the C and I said maybe some day Mark.

Somehow, I was anticipating the last sentence would be a comment about how he already has two small A on the back of his jersey.

Russell with the permanent "A" shows how much of a leader he is on this team...one of the more important guys no question.

Are you suggesting that you wanted him over Barkov?
Because I did and when I said so, I don't recall getting much (or any) support.

I enjoy reading opinions of people who go against the grain but end up being right (or in this case, look to be right). But you didn't want Monahan over Barkov. I'll give you that you were critical of Barkov and that you didn't think it was worth giving up the assets to move up and take Barkov over Monahan, but you still consistently ranked Barkov over Monahan as far as I could see.

Monahan

I just wasted a half hour of my life trying to find the post but couldn't.
However, the posts that you quoted were from April (two months before the draft). I don't know about you, but I try to keep an open mind and, you know, sometimes I even change my mind - gasp!
It's not like these are kids that we've known for years prior to the draft conversations.
Anyway, closer to the draft, I think I said something to the effect of: Monahan over Lindholm, and I would even take him over Barkov.
But I can't find it, so I will retract my prior comments.

^ I changed my mind right after the draft and once they announced his name I was 100% sure I like Monahan better.

For me it was Barkov>Lindholm>Monahan. Barkov's not far off of Monny, Lindholm looks poised to break out this year. All that being said, Monahan is a perfect fit for the Flames, the kid does it all. So happy they got him.
I should also add that in that draft I had Nichushkin over Monny too.
