I've always suspected he would be the odd man out. Byron is a hard worker and good utility player, but in the West you can't have "small" players filling those support roles in your lineup. He should do well in Montreal.

I thought he'd get waived but I also thought he'd clear and be the perfect call up. Being picked up by Montreal seems right for some reason though and I wish him luck. He was always an honest performer and played above his weight, I couldn't help but cheer for the small guy.

I am sad to see him go as well, but the writing was on the wall. We are too deep and with Ferland and Bennett taking spots this year, he was one of the odd men out. He's going to have an opportunity to succeed in Montreal. Good luck, Paul.

Thanks for always giving your heart and soul while with the Flames Paul - you will always have fans in this town. All the best in Montreal.

Happy to see the reaction around here.
My girlfriend knows the Byrons, and this proximity has made it a little more apparent than normal what it actually means to a young family to uproot all of a sudden and move across the country.
As fans it is tempting, even easy, to think of these transactions of "fringe" players or depth forwards as basically meaningless, but they're incredibly meaningful for the people involved.
Kudos to (most of) y'all for the warm sentiment for a player who gave everything for the logo on the front while he was here.

This. His game is better suited to the East and especially the Habs, this should be a good move for him.

Byron is probably my favorite Ex-flame in the NHL right now, with how washed up Iggy is. Hope we meet the Habs in the playoffs.

This isn't your Flames of Feaster/Sutter years, so its ok if guys like Byron are claimed by other teams, just means we have enough depth on our team.

Good luck to Byron! Purely a victim of the numbers game here in Calgary. He's developed into a solid utility player who can kill penalties and keep opposing D busy with his blazing speed. If he ever starts burying those breakaway opportunities he'll be a valuable cog for an NHL team somewhere.

I find how you analyze players strange and your preferences even stranger.

Weren't Iginla and Tanguay the best players for the Avs last year?

I get your point but I doubt his family is moving to Montreal. The Habs could easily put him back on waivers in a couple of weeks.

Strange pick-up by mtl. With Kassian gone, I figured they would look for a bit of thugery.
My prediction: Byron will be top 5 in the league for 3 on 3 GWGs.

I get that the Flames have depth to spare in the bottom 6, but this was a guy I wouldn't have risked losing.
Byron's tenacity and speed were huge assets, and he played bigger than his true size. Too bad for us, I think this is an understated loss to the roster.

Iggy is slow and a bit lazy these days, not very fun to watch. That's all.

Can't stand the habs, but I do like Byron, so best of luck to him. Should be good news for Granlund and Hathaway, depending on injuries. Still think Raymond will be assigned to Stockton in the next few weeks and that will be that.
Really liking the projected line-ups without worrying about Raymond and Byron.
