In regards to the Bruce Carson bit, I had pretty much front ring seats to when the thing went down in 2011. I can tell you that the insiders dropped him pretty much as fast as they could once they found out. People's private lives can be hidden from prying eyes pretty easily.
As for Harper's involvement, the guy has a very distance and alienating management style. Mainly relying on close, inner advisers to take care of most of the day to day for him. This inner circle was originally very reliable. People such as Tom Flanagan and Ken Boessenkool were with Harper from the beginning. But Harper drove them away. I don't think many people understand how separate Harper is from the nitty-gritty of his own party.

The homophobic statements from the CPC candidate in Mississauga-Malton are unacceptable and Stephen Harper must remove him immediately. –TM
I can't find the comments in question, but this is pretty much the last thing the CPC needed at this point in the campaign.

Is it too late to replace candidates now?

Liberal and NDP candidates get removed for stupid Twitter and Facebook posts they made years ago. This guy writes an editorial this year calling homosexuality unnatural, how in the hell did that not get caught by Harper's vetting teams?

Probably because some Conservative voters have demonstrated that outright bigotry is just fine, and others think it's a secondary issue to economic ideology.

This has probably strengthened the CPC voter base if anything.

I'm sure it resonates with hard-right base, but if Harper doesn't get out in front of it, it could be damaging for them. The problem for the CPC is that the deadline has passed to replace the candidate and this is a riding that they need to retain.

Yeah, homophobic comments that leak to the media can be enough to entrench swing votes. I believe the same thing happened with the Wildrose in the 2011 provincial election with that "gays go to hell" or whatever that rubbish was.

I said it before: The prior two elections went well for the Cons because Harper kept the fringe in line and out of the news with stuff like this.
This election has been one issue after another. He lost the reigns and now the horses are going where they want to.

I feel like a ping-pong ball ... every time I lean towards one party or the other (non-NDP), they do their best to hit me right back to the other side by doing or saying something unpalatable.
Seeking nomination for public office should be an automatic disqualifying factor for actually holding that office.

1) You're assuming there is one?
2) It appears that he was named prior to writing the post ( Apr 12 vs sometime after June), so any vetting may not have continued
3) Unless someone finds a link, the editorial may not be on the internet
4) The editorial wasn't in English so may have slipped through
All problems that need to be fixed. This is obviously inexcusable.

Just wow.

A campaign pamphlet recently spotted in the riding, with the fine print, "Authorized by the official agent for Jagdish Grewal," features a picture of Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau and Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne at the Toronto Pride parade. The slogan reads, "Are these the priorities of your family?"
In another picture, a piece of paper is superimposed onto Bains' hand. The paper reads "Liberal priorities: Sex Education, Gay Marriage, Legalize Marijuana and Prostitution."
Grewal says the flyer is not from his campaign.

The fact that he actually made the distinction between homosexual and "normal" is completely unforgivable.

The harder they want to make it to vote for them, the better. Keep the bigotry flowing!

Unbelievable that the Conservatives might still win. The BS is piled sky high and Canadians will be fine with it as long as they believe the illusion that Harper will make our economy strong.
