Wow. I actually am kind of shocked by this. I am not really sure why because he's had so many close calls in the past, but I am shocked.
It's sad to hear. He was passionate about helping animals and learning about them. He was entertaining, seemingly likable. I feel bad for the family.

Personally, I thought he was a bit of a jackass. He didn't treat animals with respect. He teased them to make a money. If someone did to dogs what he did to wild animals in order to entertain people, they would not have been held in such high regard. Nor would many people be upset if that person was mauled.
Don't get me wrong, I feel sorry for him and his family, but he was a fool and died a fool's death. Hope it was worth it.

Damn, I got stung by a stingray in the foot surfing last winter and it was the most painful experience of my life. My condolences go out to his family

Stunned when I heard this. Sad news.
Is he still open game for spoofs and parodies? I wouldn't do one.

Wow, sad story. First thought was an alligator and not a sting ray.

How ironic, that he would be killed by a stingray, after messing around with crocs and venomous snakes his whole life. I guess that Evamans comment LBTS and DBTS is quite apt.
I feel sad for his kids and family.

I have a few friends in Oz, and I've already been getting the email spoofs. Strange senses of humour down under, that's for sure.

untrue. he loved animals and didn't tease them, he was teaching everyone about them. you obviously dont know how much he cared for animals etc. http://youtube.com/watch?v=OE2hy7OAl...related&search= he never purposefully hurt any animal.

While I don't question that in his heart he loved animals, the combination of ego and showmanship caused many animals grief. He didn't physically hurt them, but it wasn't respectful. On one hand he would preach about natural beauty and conservation, but then 2 minutes later he would be manhandling wild animals and treating them like props.

I can't remember ever seeing a wrestling incident where he wasn't moving the animal to a different enclosure for various reasons, always related to the animal's well being.
I do not recall him every wrestling with a crocodile just to show off.

On his show I've seen him pick up many animals, usually snakes and other reptiles. He would usually tease them, comment on how angry they are, capture them, brag about how deadly or vicious they are, and then say how beautiful they are, and release them right back where he found them.

I don't know. I just saw that quote this afternoon on the tv listings channel and thought it fit here.
