Darn, I was really hoping we could have kept Byron. Huge fan of his play.

Good for him, hopefully he can get some good playing time out there. Better suited against eastern competition anyways.

Pat Steinberg @Fan960Steinberg
Byron clearly emotional. Says Calgary was where he wanted to be, but excited to join a storied team like Montreal. #Flames

I'm not sure they have a better plan, but they certainly have several backup plans.

I don't think anyone considers this a huge loss. It's just not fun losing an asset with some value for nothing.

So 28 teams passed on him? is that what that means?

He's a favorite among the advanced stats guys. Just more ammunition to use against the Flames.

Byron will be popular in Montreal for sure.

They love their Fiesty undersized players.

Ryan Leslie @ryanleslie73
asked Byron about what that flames room means to him. Fighting tears back he said they lined up, looked him in the eye and wished him well.

Well, this doesn't make me happy at all.

At the very least it would have been nice if he'd gone to a team that I don't fricken despise.

The 27 teams that had priority before Montreal for sure passed on him.

They usually don't release the info about teams who put in a claim but didn't get a player, but the Rangers who are last on waiver priority may have put a claim but I doubt it.

So, with Byron gone and Raymond staying, that puts the roster at 22. You'd have to think we'll be seeing a recall from Stockton coming up soon. Presumably, Granlund. Perhaps a defenceman just so they have an extra.

Can someone take Byron's "heart" out before he leaves and insert it into Raymond's chest cavity?

Nakladal probably, so that they a) have an extra defenseman, and b) don't have a young player (Granlund or Wotherspoon) sitting in the press box.

On TSN radio here in Montreal, they don't understand it at all. They think he must be a Desharnais that scores even less.
Fans will love him here, his heart specifically.
