I bet both clear.
There are lots of Byron's around the league - 13th forwards who can show flashes at times. He'll clear and stick around as.... our 13th forward for most of the season imo.

I'm hoping he clears though as he is a useful depth player.

It's rare that a player is claimed off waivers, especially at this time of year. I bet he clears.

I bet both go unclaimed. Byron might be the first call-up; Raymond needs to find his game and hopefully will do so in Stockton.

Surprised.
This pretty much signals that Raymond has 0 value league wide, as a demotion of this nature pretty much removes any perceived value he might have had from the Flames point of view.

being on waivers does not mean they will be sent down if clears, just that they can be, iirc. There is a time or number of games window that is also in affect I believe

If they clear, they can be demoted any time within next 30 days/10 NHL games, so this just gives the Flames a window to demote, or see if another team takes them off their hands

If 22, we have an open roster spot? Potentially snap up someone on waivers? (This threat alone might scare some teams to hold on a player longer) Or... maybe a trade?

There is a chance that Byron get's picked up if there's a team looking to add speed and can sacrifice size. I'm assuming he'll come back up as the 13th forward otherwise and get sent back down once Colborne is back.

I was hoping Raymond would get waived but I never truly believe it would happen. Zero chance he gets picked up.
Surprised Byron is on waivers because Hartley is a big fan by all accounts.

So is the call to demote Raymond, or is the strategy to light a fire under his butt and hope he becomes Wideman 2.0 this season?

Ok sureLoss, you got some 'splainin to do.
Why would we waive all three of these guys? What rule allows Byron and Raymond to be waived, but not report to Stockton?

For people who say the Flames management doesn't always go by "always earned, never given". This just proves they do. Both players will be back eventually when injuries occur.

I'm going to guess that it's pretty clear on the Byron front that they are a fans of him, but just don't see him getting any regular playing time on this roster unless we incur a bunch of injuries. I'm betting this is a "we'll give you a shot to play somewhere" class move by the Flames. They'd rather have the asset, but if someone is willing to play him they are going to give Byron a shot.
Surprised by the Raymond waive at this point, but guessing he'll clear with ease. Doubt anyone will want his contract at this point with no action so far in the pre-season, so I doubt this clears him from our books.

I agree actually, I worded my post poorly. I think he is an upgrade for a lot of teams, and they should claim him, but they won't because they have a guy they want to give the time to.
But Byron is a million times more likely to be claimed than Raymond.
