We can debate until the cows come home, but at the end of the days, most eligible and rational voters know (or think doesn't matter) that tobacco kills more than marijuana, for whatever reasons, and that's all that matters on the subject. To suggest otherwise is insulting voters.

No one knows exactly how many people die from using pot, but the number is most certainly much much lower than almost any other drug. And even if that wasn't true some of the most dangerous substances are legal so if people want pot usage to continue to be illegal then the same people should want tobacco and alcohol made illegal.
Another interesting statistic:

Number of teen girls critically ill from alcohol poisoning at Stephen Harper's home in 2014: 1

Number of marijuana overdoses in Canada in 2014: 0

Yeah, that's the thing.

He said exactly this: “Tobacco is a product that does a lot of damage — marijuana is infinitely worse and is something we do not want to encourage.”

Infinitely worse.

Everyone knows this isn't true. Harper himself know this isn't true. He knows it. He's lying. There is no other explanation.

This is how dumb he thinks we are. I guess we'll find out if he's right.

The Conservatives are definitely in Poe's Law territory now. I honestly can't tell if that's an actual Conservative brochure or a parody of a Conservative brochure.

Giving better options for one parent to stay home is not the same as discouraging women from working. I'm definitely not voting CPC but characterizing income splitting as anti-feminkst is really reaching.

Most likely. Now I don't think they're for the general public, but designed for their University Conservative Campus clubs to mobilize for the final few weeks. Surprisingly enough, the Federal Conservatives have a highly organized foundation with their University and Campus clubs (Almost like the WHL for the NHL), which is far stronger than the Liberals, NDs and Greens.

(If anyone is curious on the topic, read up on the Carleton Conservatives and how they took over the Student Union a couple of years ago)

This election is a real watershed moment for the country, with the Conservatives fully embracing the US style of fear and nonsense style campaigning. If they win because of it, the ugliness in politics will only ramp up

They are active at U of C which made CJSW nervous. They wanted to cut or reduce funding to the campus radio station.

Years ago I went to Whistler for a Young Conservatives weekend, to get with a blonde ballerina. She was worth the awful "policy" workshops.

I disagree and a lot has been written and studied about the effect of income splitting on gender equality. It's not worth arguing about any more. I don't blame people for taking advantage of it because it's there.

I posted one link, but you can google search "income splitting gender equality" and see that it is a common concern among public policy researchers.

Heard on the radio this morning that the home renovations tax credit from the CPC would be a permanent thing once re-elected. That's actually a pretty cool thing, except for the fact that most serious renovations exceed $600. Bump it up to $2000 and then it gets sweet.

Also watched Mulcair do a pep rally in southern Ontario on TV today. Man that guy would be terrible as our PM, he comes across as labored, ingenuous and with an ass backwards understanding of Canadian business and industry.

So... it's all about how to maximize tax revenue, and this policy goes against that in two ways - keeps one person out of the taxable income bracket, and reduces the tax for the other person. Plus it would minimize things like daycare, taking out even more tax revenue (both on the spend and income side).

So really, it has not much to do with what is better for the people, or better for the kids, or better for the family, or better for society as a whole, it's about the taxes.

Anecdotally, sure there men that have their wives under their thumb and oppress them. Anecdotally, there are women that have their men under their thumb and oppress them too.

Everyone knows that women spend by far more than men do. In our modern society, women have a lot more power than most give them credit for... it just depends on how you want to measure it.

What the hell is going on in here? Did some 90s stand-up comics drop by?
