Icon59 Oilers waive Nikitin

Edmonton Oilers @EdmontonOilers
The #Oilers have placed defenceman Nikita Nikitin on waivers for the purpose of assignment.

I doubt they'd want him.

So, let me get my facts straight, no one is going to claim him because of his ridiculous salary and the fact that he sucks something fierce.

So they shelter $900K of his cap, but the rest still counts against the Oilers and they're still paying him his $4.5M in the AHL but his cap hit is only $3.6M?

This really worries me. Oilers mgmt appears to be figuring some things out. I miss you Kevin Lowe.

Oilers trying to pawn him off to the KHL?

Jim Matheson @NHLbyMatty
I suggest Oilers working hard to find KHL team to take Nikitin and pay some of salary because if not he'll be AHL's richest player. #EJLIve

Even if they get him to a KHL deal, his cap hit will still count (minus the $925k)

I dont know how thats going to work considering the facts that Nikitin sucks and that the Ruble is a shambles unless Nikitin takes a pay cut. If it were me I'd be playing the season out in Cali while collecting Katz's paycheques for the year.

He is never, ever, ever going to get anywhere close to $4.5M again as long as he lives and he probably knows it.

He'd still get paid his money by the Oilers, the KHL team would just help pay it.

Well since NHL contracts are guaranteed he would be paid $4.5 million USD this season regardless. Oilers are hoping a KHL team is willing to pay a part of that $4.5 million in exchange for him being on their KHL team.
