United up 2-1, which is expected. City down 1-0.

Well, Manchesters made that a whole lot harder than it had to be.

The teams are ranked according to points (3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, 0 points for a loss). If two or more teams are equal on points on completion of the group matches, the following criteria are applied in the order given to determine the rankings
(regulations Article 17.01):[1]
1) higher number of points obtained in the group matches played among the teams in question;
2) superior goal difference from the group matches played among the teams in question;
3) higher number of goals scored in the group matches played among the teams in question;
4) higher number of goals scored away from home in the group matches played among the teams in question;
5) if, after having applied criteria 1 to 4, teams still have an equal ranking, criteria 1 to 4 are reapplied exclusively to the matches between the teams in question to determine their final rankings. If this procedure does not lead to a decision, criteria 6 to 12 apply;
6) superior goal difference in all group matches;
7) higher number of goals scored in all group matches;
8) higher number of away goals scored in all group matches;
9) higher number of wins in all group matches;
10) higher number of away wins in all group matches;
11) lower disciplinary points total based only on yellow and red cards received in all group matches (red card = 3 points, yellow card = 1 point, expulsion for two yellow cards in one match = 3 points);
12) higher club coefficient.

I guess it's the Canadian in me, but I never got why so few players in soccer who score off ridiculous passes don't immediately run to the player who dished it to them.
When you're gifted one by an incredible play, recognize.

While they are on different levels, those levels are both well above the level of the other two clubs in the group. Arsenal should have been able to pick up 6 points by now without Ozil or Sanchez having played a minute of CL football. We're a bottle of weak sauce.

I think that is where the overall competitiveness of the EPL really hurts these teams.
I feel like you are pretty much putting out your best team every week in the EPL, and you can't prioritize the mid-week games as much as the teams in other leagues can.

Arsenal are certainly in trouble. They've lost against Zagreb and Olympiakos, I dont think any manager in the group is expecting to take points off of Bayern, they might get a result, highly unlikely a win, but you never know.
So if Arsenal cant get any results against Bayern that means theres only 6 available points left to them and Zagreb and Olympiakos already have 3 each.

I've been reading a lot about this and while theres some truth to it, there seems to be a point of controversy as to how much merit there is to that assertion.
Some say that playing against tough competition week in and week out keeps them strong and sharp, as well as the fact that the English league is the richest in the world with the ability to field the most depth.
In my opinion it isnt the overall competitiveness of the English league that is killing English teams, its their desire to buy their squads rather than build them.

In international club news, it appears that an injury is the least of Messi's worries.
Quote:
Barcelona star Lionel Messi and his father Jorge are to both stand trial for three counts of tax fraud against the Spanish tax authorities with the state attorney demanding a 22-month jail sentence, according to court documents made public on Thursday.
Messis Sr and Jr are each accused of defrauding Spain's tax office of €4.1 million ($4.5m) in unpaid taxes from 2007-09.

He might need to get out of Spain and head to a friendly non-extraditional South American nation that harbours people looking to evade authorities.
Perhaps Argentina?

Not a hope in hell that sticks.
He'll have much too solid a defence not to mention solid character witnesses to call on.
