I hope everyone just understood what you meant anyway. For 200k and given the average salary on cpuck must be well over $160k/year now pretty sure we'd all have our own personal fieldhouses

I am glad it wasn't. Hoping for one built in 5-10 years.

It's not about what Nenshi wants. People in this city need to stop putting everything on him. His job is merely to conduct meetings. In fact Nenshi may not even vote on this issue. It's the 14 other councilors who matter.

Someone call Pavin' Dave Bron-concrete to run for re-election. If its related to the WestLRT and building roads, the guy would have it built by 2016 Season opener.

Hey, as long as you don't mind going 100% over budget…

Bump, thought i'd update on current situation:
Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi says arenas lack economic benefit for cities
http://www.calgarysun.com/2015/09/21...onomic-benefit
Quote:
Arenas don’t provide much in the way of economic benefit for cities, but that’s no reason not to build them,
“And guess what folks, that’s true, there never is, because it’s just an investment that transfers from one place to another place and there’s no reason to believe Calgary would be any different.
“And that said, that’s not a reason not to do the project or not to do any project, because the reason we have public sector investment is precisely because we try to calculate the social, environmental and external economic benefits in a way the private sector never would.
|
Calgary mayor: Flames arena-stadium plan “not even in the oven yet”
http://www.fieldofschemes.com/2015/0...-the-oven-yet/
Quote:
Just so people understand this, the amount of public investment that would be required to make that work would actually make that the largest public works project in Calgary’s history — or maybe second largest after the West LRT. So these are really, really, really big dollars. So it’s really important for us to have a conversation with Calgarians about whether hat’s a good use of public money. I have often said that public money needs to be for public benefit, not for private profit, and the question for all Calgarians now is whether there’s enough public benefit in his to justify that kind of public money.
|
There’s going to be weeks and months to continue to discuss questions like “Is that the right size? Can the transportation networks support it? Is the environmental contamination just too difficult to fix?”…
Long story short, some people have said that the CalgaryNEXT proposal is half-baked. I would argue it’s not even in the oven yet.

I actually thought he did, or maybe that was the property he acquired conveniently before the west LRT went in, and happened to be right where it went

Remember how many times and for so many years KK said that things were quite far along and an announcement would only come when there was a solid plan for a new building? We weren't going to do it like Edmonton?
Forget half-baked or not even in the oven, they're still searching the kitchen junk drawer for one of those notepads that realtors give out so they can start writing down an ingredients shopping list.

Quick Question.
What's wrong with the space between the dome and 9th avenue where the new underpass is?
Seems to me like it would be a perfect spot, right new the shiny new east village and with the Green Line coming, it would literally stop RIGHT THERE.
Seems to solve a lot of issues.

That land is privately owned.

Forget searching in the junk drawer for one of those notepads realtors give you so you can write down a list of ingredients, this idea is still in diapers and can't even write down a list of ingredients on one of those notepads realtors give you because babies can't read, let alone write down a list of ingredients.

The lands between the CP tracks and 11th Ave are privately owned, but the City owns the Stampede lands right at 12th ave/4th...

There's not enough room to build both the arena and stadium/fieldhouse on that land. There's no ability to get any CRL money for that land.
That was definitely where they were looking a few years ago. I went back through my posts about the new arena over the last fews years, and I made one in 2010 after attending a STH event and King said that the new building will be "a couple blocks north of here" ("here" being the Saddledome). So, either they were looking at the rail lands or the land south of 12th Avenue where the parking lots are right now.
...Then, they bought the Stamps and the scope of the project grew.

Realtors haven't been invented yet because this idea is still in the Feudal system.

Thanks all.
So they would have to pay for the land....which is the issue because I can't believe that all the way from 14th avenue to the train tracks isn't enough to put this project
