We have to be missing something. It seems so obvious that numerous short trips are money.

It could be due to time; it's a short trip distance-wise but in crowded downtown streets it's probably pretty slow as well. This combined with the time needed to get to the passenger (and often time for the passenger to get into the vehicle) means that the trip earns them low dollars/hours. And most likely, they'll need to wait until they get another passenger.
If you read Uber driver experiences, they also hate short trips because they often have to drive some distance to get there.

I can listen to my music/podcasts over Bluetooth now, my #1 request. Too bad they couldn't add this to the smart cars.

How long are in any given car that it would be worth while to pair your phone? Most of the time I don't even bother changing the radio station.

Cabs love to short trip during Stampede. I've had a cab tell me he couldn't take me home (it was about 7pm) because he was almost done his shift. The next cab had no problem taking me and told me the last cabbie probably wanted to jump between downtown and various bars/tents nearby.
So the moral of my story is that they do love short-tripping but probably only during certain times of the year and it depends where your short trip is going to take them.

My average rental is about an hour. And I listen to a bunch of podcasts, so radio is my last resort.

Has anyone used car2go in Toronto that would like to share their experience? Mostly looking at availability in the downtown area, is there the mass exodus from downtown like we have in Calgary, and any gotchas?

Unfortunately, you can't use the C2G website to book reservations anymore. App only.

I just moved back in January after two years in TO. The car2go system is great. They are always around there. If you know what area you'll be staying in then get to know the area a bit. Some parades are tough to find but there are waaaaaay more dedicated car2go spots there. This is due to no street parking. However, I never owned a car and used this exclusively. He odd frustrating experience but overall excellent.

Yeah that is disappointing. I use it from home because of how bad the app is. I constantly need to force close it to get vehicles to show up. And once you get a vehicle, it forces you to log in again. Its quite frustrating to be using the radar for 30 minutes, find a vehicle, be forced to log in once again with your full email and password, only to lose the vehicle to someone else

Well we knew this was coming. Rates for the 4 door B Class Mercedes are going way up from Smart Car rates:
Our rates for our Mercedes-Benz vehicles are increasing as follows:
per Minute - $0.47 (was $0.41)
per Hour - $19.99 (was $14.99)
per Day - $115.00 (was $84.99)
Whole bunch of increases to all fines. The new $50/day lost revenue from towing charge is kinda crappy....
There's a lot next to the office that's $23 a day.... with a second car now I don't see myself using C2G as much as I used to for lunch hour errands.

But nothing has changed with the smart cars? I may have used the Mercedes cars 5 times in total, they're almost never the closest thing to me. Don't really see this as changing my use of the service.
It is terrible though, I'm not sure if I ever pay for it because I call in every time there's a problem with a rental (mostly people not parking them in the right places) and they give me free minutes. I seem to have a problem roughly every third or fourth time I try to use it... Frankly, if they'd just enforce their penalties, they'd probably make more money off the service as a whole, because as it is people just park wherever they please.
City Centre parkade is the worst for this - you're only allowed to park in the 3 spaces on the first floor east side, or anywhere on floor 6. People just park the cars wherever they like, so you have to hunt through twelve floors of parkade to try to find the one you reserved. If you're one of these people, please do me a favour and headbutt a brick wall.

Back to its original borders on the West side before they retracted it.....clearly demand isn't as staggering as it used to be and they can waste a few more cars being stuck out in the Bermuda Triangle.

Question...I've never needed a Car2Go for 24 hours, but I'm in Vancouver and need one for 24 hours.
Do you have to do anything special or does the day-rate automatically kick in after some time?

Nothing special, it will kick in on its own once the accumulative hourly rate goes higher than the day rate.
