He's making Treliving's decision tougher with his play tonight.

One of those unsung kind of guys. Works hard, like Neo says, make very little mistakes. And a good right hand shot too.

Flames building the kind of depth you need to go far in the playoffs.

Not only that; they're building the kind of depth you need after you go far in the playoffs, when you have to trade guys away to stay under the cap, Chicago style.

Every time I watch Shore play, he has at least one Datsyuk-esque interception per game.

Everyone must be watching a different Drew Shore than me. He looks invisible at best and horrible at worst tonight.

Guess so. He's had a solid NHL game tonight. Good attention to detail.

I thought he was really solid tonight. Some tough decisions for sure.

I really didn't see anything special from shore either... Don't see him on the team with so many other guys coming along

He's not flashy but you can tell he's a smart player. I don't see him able to move up the Flames depth chart, and the fourth line C position would be the only spot he can possibly take.

He might also possibly be able to take a 4th line right wing position, but that's questionable too.
That said, the GM could try and make some trades to free up space for younger guys who are ready. Problem is, I doubt that any of the vets people would like moved (Raymond, Stajan, Engelland & Smid) can be moved right now. Tough sell to move them at this time when other teams are dealing with a lot of the same problems. And burying these dudes in the A is not a good solution either.
Best hope IMO is to trade one or more of these guys later on in the season.

I like Drew Shore
Stajan and Raymond are really the only guys that qualify from your post to move to make room for Shore.
Based on interviews and comments from players and management I get the feeling Stajan is a big part of the leadership group though, so I can't see that happening despite how badly some people want him gone.
Raymond is good to go, but he's likely not getting a lot of interest right now

I think Byron and Raymond are simply put on waivers. I don't see either being claimed whereas Shore probably would be. I suppose a team could take a flyer on Byron, but a lot of teams are facing similar logjams up front

I'd waive Raymond. I've defended him when the team wasn't deep, but he really doesn't fit anymore. If he was picked up, great (not gonna happen). Probably should have been a buyout in the offseason, but maybe Treliving figures to get an asset for a salary dump (with some retention).
Byron might get waived, he looked ok last night, but no better than Shore, with less size. If he was waived and picked up I'm happy for him because he will play somewhere. The only problem with waivers is Edmonton's likely picking position.
Shore did exactly what he needed to do - use his size, play decent centre.

Coaching staff loves Byron and what he brings. This waivers cap you are talking won't happen.

Byron is the epitome of the current Flames culture. Can't see him going but who knows. He's a consistent bottom 6 guy who doesn't score much but is hugely valuable on the PK and sets the tone with his effort. Shore can be good but has been nowhere near as consistent as Byron thus far in his career.
The writing is really on the wall for Raymond. Feel bad for the guy but he's not even a top 15 fwd on this team right now.
With the camp he's had so fear, have to think Ferland is a lock. Any or all of Arnold, Granlund, Shore could be effective NHLers this year if not for the players taking up space ahead of them. That's not even counting guys like Hathaway who have surprised.
One way or the other, 3 or 4 NHL quality guys are going to the A or will be waived. Sucks for them but good problem to have.

Yep. It was Byrons first game since February/March and he was noticeable. Really don't see why some posters think he would be waived? If anything i think he is a lock for the 4th line. I like Shore and i think they will keep him as a pressbox replacement player. I think any player that can be sent down will be sent down. My guess is Flames trade Bollig. Raymond is put on waivers and sent down to Stockton. There is a chance that they just keep Raymond in the pressbox. If there are no injuries to forwards on opening night, and the flames keep 3 pressbox forwards, they will be Jooris, Shore, Raymond.

Hope not. I think Jooris's ceiling is way higher than previously guessed. He's been a fireplug in camp and is ready to take a big step this year IMHO. Smart player with underrated skill and a lot of jam.

As much as I like Byron, he's a player that I think would pass through waivers. And that's a good thing in that you get to keep a valuable asset (not good for him, obviously). On the other hand, I don't think Shore would pass through waivers and we'd end up losing an asset. Not saying Shore is a better player right now but that other teams would be more interested in Shore's size.
