I'm willing to bet some team will give jiri a nice contract based on his offensive instincts and mentoring/leadership. He is very very talented. I remember I took my younger brother to the preds game and he isn't into hockey but he kept asking who number 24 is. Hudler is extremely talented. Id love to keep him but I don't think we can afford to give him what he knows he would get from some other clubs. Id like us to trade him if we know he probably won't sign the kind of deal we could offer.

I'm not a fan of trading for Oshie but we could annoy a lot of people on the forum by calling him tj broshie. If only he were a dman. But no..I will pass on Oshie

I wouldn't trade Stajan this year, leaving Backlund as the senior centre. I don't think any of the other centre options (Arnold, Jankowski, Jooris or Granlund) are ready for Stajan's 4th line/stable in own zone/big faceoff role quite yet.
Next year, though...

Say you trade Stajan. Then say Backlund gets hurt.
You are then left with:
Monahan
Bennett
Jooris
Granlund
Arnold
It's probably a tad premature to be looking to move Stajan

You forgot Shore. Either way that's a better group than we were rolling last November when it was:
Monahan
Jooris
Granlund
Bouma/Knight

I think we keep Stajan for this year.
Injuries are going to happen, and if we truly want to contend for playoffs we will need the depth. The young guys will get their chance when injuries happen.

Colborne is a centre too. We have some depth in that department. One or even two injuries and there are guys to fill in

Yes it probably isn't necessary right now. I think we should keep stajan until the trade deadline anyway. Just pointing out that it wouldn't be the end of the world if he was traded, as we do have depth at centre. Also, I wouldn't trade him for the sake of it, or for cap space or whatever. You'd hope to get a decent return for him.

I'd like to keep Stajan this year for sure, he definitely had a good showing in the playoffs and provided some great veteran presence on the bench for our young centers. Past that, I'm guessing Arnold will be pushing very hard for a spot.

The only way you trade Stajan at this point is if you get a really good offer, and Arnold is ready to play full time in the NHL.

Opened to read anything new about the Flames and came away with questions about the Senators
" a longstanding need for top-six forward depth. ... Senators GM Bryan Murray still seeks that commodity. "
Any chance they would be interested in Jones and or Raymond?
Granted its a stretch to consider them top six forwards still, but there is some potential.

I think that you would keep Jones here as a RW in his contract year. I could see Raymond and Granlund being dangled for a junior player with promise and a pick to Ottawa.
Calgary has itself in the enviable position of having too many quality players and not enough spots. They are not going to go through the season with three goalies, and as many people have pointed out, Hiller is finding himself as the odd man in this situation.
If you look on defense, there is also the issue of potentially eight NHL skaters and eight AHL skaters. This isn't the end of the world, perhaps even ideal, except for the fact that a good number of the players are developing and will need ice time. I wouldn't be surprised if Wilson and Johnson are signed and we see one or two players capable of logging minutes in the NHL/needing 15-20 minutes a night in the AHL, on their way out.
As for the forwards, you need to find a way to keep Shore in the lineup, as he is nearly guaranteed to be picked up on waivers.
I don't expect big return on whomever we send out, but I don't see a scenario where nothing is done at all, even if we decide to let Ariondack have the greatest defensive core of all time, in the ECHL.

Sure the sens want a top 6 forward but so do the Flames. I don't think many people see Raymond as a top 6 except maybe a team with an internal cap. I could see a couple teams interested in Raymond and Hiller but I think the Flames will keep Jones.

I can't see any team wanting Raymond. There are just as good of players being signed to PTO's. Even at 50% off i doubt there is much interest. Raymond still has another year left on his contract after this season. Raymond either proves he belongs on the flames this year or he will be bought out at the end of the year.

Just read on the score app that the Flyers are trying to dump Luke Schenn. The only way I would want the flames to have interest is if we could move one of the Dman contracts that goes beyond this year. Engellend would be the best fit as the Flyers save $700k this year and the Flames remove a contract for next year. Hopefully the "good in the room" rep would be enough to get the deal done.
Also Schenn is terrible but only has a year left on his deal. The flames need to start looking at ways to move the Engellends, Smids, Raymonds, Stajans by next summer so they can keep the core players heading to free agency

What happened to schenn? McGuire hyped the human eraser too high? Toronto started him too young?

Schenn wouldn't crack our top 6 IMO. Only person I would trade for him is Raymond to free up space next year. Engelland maybe although he is cheaper and probably better at his role

I still don't think that the Flames would want to move Engelland right now, and I do think that next year enough money comes off the books for them to re-sign who they need, or they will find a way to trade someone else.
Hartley loves Engelland - called him a born leader at last year's training camp. Aside from Smid, the Flames don't have any 'muscle' on the back-end. Engelland has also shown himself to be fairly reliable when given more minutes. Treliving and Burke both feel this team needs some toughness, and Engelland is definitely a player AND has that toughness more so than Bollig, I will argue.
I just don't see it. I think that Engelland is here until his contract expires, and even then the Flames may end up re-signing him to a much lower cap hit if they don't have someone to replace him in that role, or at least use him as the 7th. If anything, Smid will be gone before Engelland, though he would be even more difficult to trade I think.
