Ah yes, the old "pay off the defendant's lawyer to step down from the case" gambit. Classic!
Especially after having had said defence lawyer first leak the name of his own client to the press.
(So, what's the over-under on the timing of her sexual history becoming public? I'm guessing 18 hours.)
There will be case studies of this defence taught in law school for many years to come.

It's just so damn fun to be rich in the USA and above the law.
You sure like to jump to conclusions.

Why would the accusers family need the evidence? I feel like they found a way to acquire it but for what reason.
Of course the victim, doesn't need the evidence bag.
But Kane needs it to be tampered with, so that all physical and DNA evidence against him will be thrown out. Now, who better to pin the tampering on than the victim? It couldn't be a more perfect set-up.
Also, by having the evidence left at the victim's house, it sends her a blunt and powerful message that the entire legal system and the police are against her.

This whole case is just textbook.
Do I need a tin foil hat here? I feel like this is from a movie script.

Either this dude knows something we don't, or he's just jumping to conclusions. Jumping to conclusions is my guess
Heck, Kaner even had an off-duty cop chauffeur him and the girl to the alleged scene of the rape in the first place.
How much more information do you really need about the town's biggest hockey star and his cozy relationship with local law enforcement to figure this case out?

Wow, so you think Kane or his team tampered with the evidence? Bizarre conclusions, to say the least.
From what we know now, it seems much more plausible that the accused mom may be implicated in the "discovery" of the bag. The accused lawyer was lied to, he has discovered this falsehood and must resign due to ethical considerations. The lawyer arguably should have handled it differently from the start, but him stepping down for these reasons is absolutely necessary. No payoff conspiracy required.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

The guy is untouchable.

You're trying to be funny, right? It's not working.
This is the kind of development which suggests that Kane might have done absolutely nothing wrong. We don't know either way but for the lawyer to withdraw, he had to have a good reason he would not be permitted to abandon his client.
As for the poster Meers, I have only ran into one person with that last name in my life, and that person was a lawyer, and he was disbarred, long enough ago I can't easily pull any records-- around the year 1999-2000. It would be odd though if he would post with his real name in such a way on a message board given the destruction he left when he was forced to stop practicing.
Edit: but the personality matches, that's why I think it could be him

Exp:
The girl's, now, ex-lawyer says that he still believes her story on the actual incident...but, now has doubts, due to the story that he was told (not by the girl) about the evidence bag...
I guess that this really doesn't change anything, materially...we are NOT in the UK, and there is no private criminal prosecution here in the US, as there is in Britain. Things still hang with the Buffalo DA and perhaps a grand jury, not the alleged victim's lawyer.
