I used to play with Lanny and Theo a bunch as a kid. Lanny was the nicest guy because he was like a pro wrestler trying to make his opposition look good. Theo on the other hand wouldn't even tie up his skates and he'd skate circles around everyone. We did a 23 on 1, with dads included, and we could hardly get the puck from him. He was so insanely fast that at half speed we didn't stand a chance. He deked my dad so bad he fell on his ass.
I don't think the average person can appreciate just how good NHL players are. Even the fringe guys are insanely good compared to the average shinny player. Adam Cracknell lit up my brother (decent shinny goaltender) at will in a shinny hockey game. He looked like Gretzky compared to everyone else.

Except Sandy McCarthy. I KNOW I could skate circles around that guy
Paul freaking Kruse played a few games with my old company's team. Guy looked like Gretz himself skating around guys like pylons and picking off the center bar.
I remember playing one summer with Dwayne Hay. When we were down a goal or two he would just "turn it on" and score. It would be like 5 strides from blue line to blue line
anyone remember the first Heckle? Our very own CP was half in the bag and could score at will. They were lucky he was taking it easy on them for the most part.

Dwayne Hay I still shudder when I hear that name.
The worst player to ever wear the Flaming C. That he even got a sniff of the Saddledome ice, shows just how dark the 'dark years' truly were.

It helps I'm one of the guys that helps run the league. If you go through the oil league teams, you'll find all sorts of familiar names.
Sorry, not questioning your info. Just making a joke referring to the guy who took a stalker photo of Regher's parent's house back in the day. Can't find the post, but here's another thread talking about it... http://forum.calgarypuck.com/archive...p/t-29987.html

7-2 for his team, he is the premier shutdown d-man of the wins port oil league
No kidding!
"Yeah man, go down the side of the ice, past the half-boards into the corner, no, no, I dont see how this could go poorly for you, just go for it, would I lie to you...."

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.

I had some buddies that played on an NCHL team with Theo Fleury back in 2006. They would win every game like 15-0 and Theo would put up an easy 6-8 points in 15 minutes of ice time.
I played with Fleury in a charity tournament. Aside from hogging the puck the whole game, he would typically do something dirty, snow the opposing goalie, try to start a fight and scream at guys that didn't pass to him because "you don't look off a 50 f#ck!ng goal scorer in the NHL."
I've also had an opportunity to play a little with Lanny, and he is 100% the opposite. Great all around guy who wants to make sure everyone is having fun.

Thats Theo being Theo. I've met him a few times too, but its just his way, he always needs to keep that edge and its just something you cant switch on and off.

A company I used to work for holds a charity hockey tournament in Vancouver each year. They brought out Cliff Ronning as one of their celebrities. The guy thought he was on the current canucks' roster, as he was going full speed, dove multiple times, and kept whining for penalties. Oddly enough there were no refs or linesmen, but he still wanted penalties called. He did earn tournament MVP, so there's that. Many of the guys in the games could barely skate. He must be proud.
