That's a scary lineup for Ortio. But it kinda bodes well for me at the Canuck game I'm going to the next night. Wouldn't have minded seeing Ferland and Bennett though.

I think that's a great lineup for competing for spots. Essentially it takes everyone who is not guaranteed a place in the opening night lineup and gives them a fighting chance. I don't think Sieloff-Kanzig will play, which leaves 6 D fighting for 1 spot, and a bench warmer. As for the forwards we have 12 fighting for 6 spots, and 2 bench warmers. It will be a great internal competition for sure. I fully expect someone to step up this game and run with it for the rest of the season.

Or maybe they're hoping he stands on his head and forces Hiller/Ramo to be traded rather than risk losing an asset for nothing

well, if Ortio can survive the siege with no help....

then he'll probably look good with our regular Dmen/lineup/help.


I guess they really want him to see a lot of pucks, see what he can do.

These next 4 games will be the games where the young guys/bubble guys need to show what they can do. The 2 pre-season games before the real season starts are almost assuredly going to be tune-up games to let the veterans work on the details of the system and build some chemistry. There won't be any time for borderline players to showcase themselves at that point, but there might be time for 1 or 2 guys who are the final cuts to show what they have.

Tomorrow in Denver looks like a night for those who are ready to separate themselves from the rest of the group. 3 games back-to-back-to-back up to Saturday. I imagine you will see a LOT of cuts on Sunday.

Brodie's injury opens a spot on defense to start the season? Who wants it the most? I honestly hope the answer is that Wotherspoon seizes his opportunity and runs with it.

Perhaps they view Arnold as one of the final cuts, so they're holding him out of a game where so many guys need to show something significant. I imagine you will see him in one or both of Friday's and Saturday's games.

He's being held out so that he doesn't get injured because we're trading him, Bollig, Raymond, and Engelland for Alex Ovechkin.
