I'll let you in on a little secret. There are tons of neighbourhoods where there is not enough parking. What little parking there is is often ruined by idiots that take up two spaces when they only need one. It is irrelevant who owns the space. Nobody owns it. We all own it. Don't take more than you need. And when possible, don't be a dink and park in front of your neighbour's house, when you've got space in front of your own. It's like a parking lot. Sure, I COULD take four spaces, but I only need one. People that take 2 or 3 or 4 are DBs. Pretty simple concept here. Can't believe we're disagreeing.
|
I actually totally agree with you on this. If you're going to park, fine. But don't ruin it by parking in the middle, effectively eliminating a free spot because of your crappy parking skills and/or lack of consideration for others. And yes, if you have a free spot in front of your own house, why be a dink and hog up a spot closer to someone else's house?

That man has all of the quintessential hallmarks of a Juggalo. Just bring some magnets and he'll likely be mystified.
If you're going to park in front of his house you're just going to have to go all the way...

While I will always try to park in front of my house, sometimes that isn't an option. If I have to park a couple spots down then big deal. I'll live, and so will you.

I have often found the amount of issues, fights, feuds, property damage and threats that come out of parking, and especially parking in front of one's house, to be simply astounding. I am not surprised in the least that folks have signs up in their yards, hell, one of the guys by my house has a "No Parking" sign in front of his house...that everyone just ignores, as they should.

It's annoying. In Vancouver, people are always putting buckets on the road in parking spots in front of their house to prevent people from parking in them.

And reasonably so, go to Mexico for a week and come back to have your car towed because you were out of the country? That would be pretty crappy.

Not true at all. I watched it happen on my street this past summer.
Had some people on my street call and report a vehicle that sat unmoved for a solid week and didn't belong to anyone on the street. I got to see it all unfold since they came to our door and asked if it was our vehicle.
Vehicle was tagged the next day and was gone a day or so later. I don't think it was towed however. I would imagine if the vehicle is registered to a property on that street they would likely do nothing, but in this case it wasn't registered to any household on the street.

I saw this article and thought it was Sliver taking his trolling to a new level.
My friend called this guy a tattooed bag of milk on Facebook - apt.

Yep, you can always call Parking Authority. What seems to happen seems to depend on who answers the phone, in my experience. If you talk to someone and don't see that orange sticker appear in a day or two, try again.
If the vehicle is registered to someone on the street (or relatively close by), you will be out of luck, though.

Generally they'll always come and orange sticker it (abandoned vehicle sticker) which just gets the attention of the owner to call in and confirm it is not abandoned.
It has nothing to do with how close the person lives. As long as it is a) registered, b) road worthy, and c) the owner is aware of where it is, they can leave it parked legally as long as they want.
Problem really arises when people try and make the car not meet criteria a) or b) on their own to get it towed

I can't be the only one confused by the decent typography on that sign. He strikes me as more of a sharpie-on-the-back-of-an-old-box-of-Wildcat kinda guy.

Some people are totally clueless when it comes to parking, this includes my neighboor. The first one home always parks right in front of the door, instead of pulling up to my rear bumper. The next two home (itas a couple with two grown children) each have to parallel park in front of and behind of the first vehicle.
Part of being a good neighboor and a good person is being considerate of others, unless it is the internet, this has become a rare trait.

I find the best resolution to these problems is that if you have a garage, park your second "crappy"* vehicle in front of your home and save the garage/driveway for yourself or guests.
In our neighbourhood there are homes of varying types. It just so happens that the one "skinny" home that doesnt have a garage or driveway has the most car users (must be a rental) and they park wherever. Thankfully I dont live near there so I dont have to deal with whatever issues their neighbors deal with.
*Obviously this doesnt apply to most of CP as their second vehicle is likely a 2012 Porsche or fuel efficient VW Golf.

I don't think this guy has a right to complain about who parks in front of his house. It's not his property, no one is breaking the law and life is unfair. What if the neighbour has a guest, do they have to take the bus because there are no parking spots? I'm pretty sure you pay more for places that have ample parking and some places would cost more if parking was included. The sense of entitlement in some people is mind bottling.

I don't understand why people can't simply park in front of their own house. Guests, sure. They're gonna park on the street wherever. But if you're routinely parking in front of someone else's house, there's something wrong. Especially if you have three vehicles and your garage is used as a man-cave or filled with junk. Then you're just a d-bag.
Driveways. Garages. Use them.

In all fairness, "don't" is used both with & without an apostrophe, the line spacing is a little tight, and the kerning is all over the place.
Overall I'd give it a B, just a few small details to smooth out.

We had a family reunion at my place 2 yrs ago. There were a number of cars, about 3 extra for a week. My neighbour, that has a 3 car wide driveway, offered us one of the spots for my in-laws. He made his son, who usually parks there, park down the street by the school.
He is a great neighbour.
