Thankfully the Blackberry phone system is gone. I haven't progressed far enough to see if they still have the trade-deadline mini-game, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't there last year.
Scouting is still an absolute joke (you can't even view a list of top prospects until draft day), but the draft is really revamped. Essentially, you go in order on a draft timer, giving you so much time to draft a player. You can jump in at any time and trade picks or players, and you can call time-outs to give yourself a bit more time to make a decision (however, the clock will stop when you're in a trade screen). You can also look at trade blocks, which is something that should have always been available.
Apart from the morale system, which I hate with a measurable passion, not much has changed outside of the draft in the last handful of years.

That was just the worst system. This year is much better. I like that you have 3 minutes to draft a pick or trade the pick and makes it more realistic.

Yeah, I think I'm out until they make some major changes.

I've been playing a bunch of Be A GM at a friend's place and am absolutely loving it.
This game has made me want to get a ps4 just to play NHL Be A GM.
Managing the roster is fun, the menus are a lot more slick. Some presentation issues like the scoreboard being in the way, but having a ton of fun with it.

You can turn the Scoreboard Off or switch it to a smaller version in options.

Is anyone having an issue with player spots disappearing from your Roster in HUT? I no longer can start a game, because it tells me constantly my roster is not full.

Yeah quit HUT and restart. Or restart the whole game. If that doesnt work unplug your console and it will reset and be fine. There have been some issues but they are working on a fix. This kept happening to me with Bouma last week.

I had the issue with a particular player card, I sold it and the issue went away. Seems to be a glitch.

ugh, i am just hating the game already. my pass % has never been over 60% online, my players fail to pick up the puck, playing D is ridiculous yet again.
if seems like folks have figured out how to play the game in a way that makes this feel a lot like last year's game.

Try HUT single player seasons.
So far it's a lot of fun. Especialy when you try the seasons that have min/max requierments.
It seems like the CPU is a lot better this year.

Have you tried just playing "online versus" mode? I found a few games of that felt completely different to HUT

not since early after release, when all online modes were fun.
I tried altering my roster to max out all possible team/line chemistry (naturally everyone playing their natural positions) but then was fortunate to find some team change training cards and made all my forwards be from the same team (except for 1 line).
So took my average roster (everybody is between 82-85 OVR) and had team and line chemistry both 92+. What a difference the next game was. All the bounces my way. then i played the next game, and i'im sure the opponent had out "chemistry" or topped up player overalls, so bounces fully reversed.
Thanks for the abovee suggestions (offline HUT, or online vs). given the impact of chemistry on the way physics work in the gameplay, i suppose moving away from HUT online will reduce my bloodpressure and reduce the probability of me throwing my controller thru my tv

They also changed up the passing. It definatly matters where your players blade is and how much pressure you put on the triggers. Lots of subtle changes it seems this year with skating as well.

so I went ahead and got the game this year after having skipped 2 out of the last 3 years. (and not really playing the one year I did get it)
So far there are a lot of things I like about the game, but I still don't feel like it's anywhere near hockey. More like pinball on ice.
With that said, I have just been doing offline HUT so far in an attempt to get back into playing shape. So its been a mix of rookie and pro level games so far. I had 1 OTL on my first pro level game but have been massacring the CPU otherwise. I think it's time to step it up!
If anyone is on PS4 and plays a non cheese style of game, I would love to try some human competition. My PSN is dobbles81.

I absolutely love the new manual one timer. Feels so good to score a goal with it.

What control mode do y'all play on?
I've been playing on Hardcore and like it much better than simulation.

For passing you definitely can not have the receiver behind and to the left or right. If they are directly behind you it's a doable pass.
Also moving the stick a little to the forehand before passing helps.
The protect puck is the most valuable move you have. Most players are way too aggressive so the reason the passing % is so low is that people get way out of position and double team the passer. So you protect the puck and evade the attackers. Find an open lane and you'll almost always have an odd man rush. So if they chase you to the corner use the r1 saucer pass to shoot it up to the blueline where there should be a wide open man. The R2 pass is almost always along the ice so it's super easy to intercept, the saucer pass works really well if you protect the puck and draw the attackers away from the receivers, passing with R2 through them will almost always never work. For long passes the skater and passer need to be skating in the same direction for it to be a high % chance of being received.
A player is far away with multiple defenders in the way and he's skating in a non-parallel direction? forget it, circle around or pass off to the other d. You just gotta shake off the one or two attackers, most people try to pass through them because they panic and the passes never work.
The way you use the controller matters as well, if you press the buttons in a frantic manner the puck goes all over the place. You have about a second or two window for passes and it's got to be a smooth sequence of button presses because if it's frantic the controls just don't respond.
