I really wish they would have had a little round robin play in tournament featuring the #7-10 countries in the IIHF rankings this fall and ditched the cheesy Youngstars and Eurostars teams.

I saw this on the TSN comments ... If the NA team or Euro team wins.. What anthem is played? Are they bringing in Calvin Harris to do a techno remix of multiple anthems?
Euro team would have Beethoven's 9th, 4th movement "Ode to Joy". The EU adopted that as its anthem.
I'm going to love this tournament. I got excited for the Penticton games. Next year will be 100x more exciting.
I think the U23 will be fan favorites as well.
HF boards will love them more than life itself. In fact right now they're probably coming up with a hypothetical draft pick team and by the end will convince themselves that this team would win the tournament.
Players that haven't played a game in the NHL are gold on that site, it's hilarious.

There will be such an tournament for the next one from what I understand.

It will make the event much more legitimate.
We're going to need an even more unlikely group of scrappy underducks underdogs if anyone is going to beat that damn Iceland team!

When the tournament was conceived, NHL and NHL Players’ Association executives believed they might be able to generate $90 million in revenue from a two-week tournament. Now, after selling rich TV rights to ESPN in the U.S. and Rogers Communications in Canada, and thanks to strong interest from corporate sponsors, NHL team owners and NHLPA executives have been advised the September 2016 event may raise as much as $130 million, according to a source who said NHL team executives have been briefed on the profit projections.
Costs are estimated to be about $65 million - including $10 million to $15 million budgeted for player insurance - meaning owners and players, who are jointly staging the event, will split a profit of about $65 million.
That would be a far cry from the $4 million profit the last World Cup of Hockey event generated in 2004.
Astounding levels of money for a 2 week tourney. Awesome stuff.
