Canadians fail to practice good hygiene: study
Umm, so who here doesn't wash their hands after going to the washroom?
http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNew...hub=TopStories
A new international survey suggests Canadians have a high level of understanding of the basics of good hand and home hygiene, but aren't translating knowledge into practice often enough.
...
Despite that, 12 per cent admitted they don't automatically wash their hands before eating or handling food, and nine per cent confessed they sometimes fail to wash up after going to the toilet.
Yuck!

Yeah same here.
But let me guess, the next study will reveal Canadians to be busy people.

Nothing is more disgusting than seeing somebody come out of the stall and walk straight out of the washroom. I saw it recently at my gym. Now that guy is going to be handling the same equipment as me and everybody else right after he wiped his rear end!!!!!!! Some people are just animals. What kind of household was this person raised in?

Anybody remember Danger Boy at the bus depot? He'd hide in a stall with a bull horn, waiting for people to go to the can and not wash their hands. He would then follow them into the main building, and then "announce" to everyone what the unhygienic person just did, live on the radio.

I've seen that too many times. Before I throw out the paper towel from drying my hands, I open the door. What good is washing my hands if I then open a door after someone who didn't wash?

I agree. I also turn the tap off with the paper towel after I dry my hands. Why wash your hands only to turn the the dirty tap off.

Wow I thought I was a germaphobe.
I practice more sanitiary practices than most according to the survey, but if people don't catch bugs every once in a while, how do we become immune?
Is our ultimate goal to become completely sterile?
Germs mutate faster than we do, our only hope is to catch them, strangely enough. Our human biology has been present way before soap, and in the long run, it's better than any antibiotic.
Hello War of the Worlds. (I'm not talking the Cruise version, because that had too many explosions.) I'm talking the Wells version.
Don't be afriad of the avian flu (oh yeah where did that go? just another fear mongering ploy and 'unintentional' cash grab by Rummy) embrace it!
In all seriousness. WASH YOUR HANDS. Other than that, don't worry. We are supposed to get sick. If we don't, that will be even more trouble.
It's a fine line between bubonic plague and supervirus, but just keep clean but don't be too afraid to pick your nose and scratch your ass.
And no one panic.

It's shocking the number of people that don't wash their hands, particularly in public washrooms (especially where I work, in a hospital - hello people, what is the matter with you?!) And I see lots of people using paper towel on door handles as they leave the washroom, knowing that the last person to open that door failed to wash their hands. But really, what good does that do? Sure you save your hands the germs from the door knob, but everything else you touch after that will also have germs.
Hand sanitizer is the best. It costs less than 2 bucks. The higher the alcohol content, the better.

OK since we are talking about nasty hygene habits - what is it with people that don't flush. WTF?!?! How do you go in there and take care of your business and then think "Should I flush? Naw...it's all good!".
Boggles the mind!

That is the thing that one thing that really grosses me out too. Nothing like walking into a stall or washroom and seeing a log that didnt make it down stream. I leave the bathroom immediately.

That's fine if you want the hands of a 90 year old dishwasher, especially in Calgary's dry climate. And that alcohol rub aint gonna stop Norwalk virus either, among others.

I've got an older fellow in my office who just reeks of BO. I can't stand having to help him on user issues. There are a few younger employees as well who need to learn the finer points of using soap & a shower, as well as deoderant...

Isn't it better than having someone else's pee on your hands?!

I've had people say say hello and walk right by while I'm at the sink washing my hands. Do they think I won't notice? Do they think I'm not going to run back to the IT department and tell everyone? I need to warn my coworkers that if they receive a call from that person you want to make sure you fix the problem remotely. Don't need to be touching that keyboard or mouse.
JiriHrdina - It's sad how offen people don't flush, some people just weren't raised right. This guy I know doesn't flush at his own home, he said he does it to save water. Water just isn't that important in my book.

Yup, me too since I was little. Actually, I'm "one of those" who avoids having anything to do with a washroom stall. If its an emergency I will line the seat with 20 feet of toilet paper before I sit on one.

I have always have this fear of using hand soap... but I usually use hot water and scrub my hands for an extremely long time...
But at my old high school, people used to not flush the toilet after they dump... and as soon as I see it... I seriously bust out of there and go to the one over...

If I am drunk at a pub/bar I usually don't bother washing my hands after going to the can. Most pub/bar sinks are gross so why bother. Sober I am careful about washing before eating, after the bathroom etc. I haven't been sick in years so I must be doing something right.
