bloody shaw!!!
Arrgh! I hate Shaw and their moving channels to coerce people into moving to digital cable.
Starting tomorrow they are moving the Golf Channel to Digital 144 only (which you have to purchase) and replacing it with American Movie Classics (which we already have on analog cable). They've already moved MSNBC to digital and replaced it with Encore Avenue.
This is absolutely ridiculous. My dad watches Golf Channel religiously but he has no use for digital (and I abhore the thing as I've posted before). Now he'll have to buy digital, get a digital box, suscribe to digital Golf Channel, etc. all for one measly channel. This is bloody ######ed.
I predict Shaw will start moving all the unique/premium channels off analog to digital only and replace analog with nothing but junk or movie recycling channels.

Man, I hate the Golf Channel with a burning passion, but my dad too watched it ALL THE FREAKING TIME. We've got digital cable on one TV, but not the other. He's gonna be ****ed.

I remember when they moved some channels past channel 13 and lots of TVs couldn't go that high and people complained. Times change, time to move with them.

Those movie channels are so useless, nothing but horrid movies that I wouldn't even watch for free.

what's with all the venom about digital cable? It's the only way to go ... watching all the preseason NFL on Ch140 right now. Can't beat that.

The American Movie Classics are not yet available in Canada. I read somewhere that shaw is the first in Canada to add it to their lineup. If it's at the cost of Golf then so be it. Golf channel is just not popular enough to "protect". Time to wake up and realize that MOST people will be very happy with the change.

We already have Turner Classic Movies on 42, I confused it with that. How many b&w westerns can you watch in one day?

the golf channel doesn't belong on analog anyways. it doesn't get anymore interest than the NHL or NFL channels do so moving it to digital makes sense

Well I find the golf channel alot more entertaning then the NHL network. At least the Golf channel has origanal programing.
But anyway, People need to get with technology and stop complaining. People always want more options and more channels. Well the only way to do this is to go digital, if you don't like it, I think you can pick up about 3 or 4 channels with rabbit ears.

I can't believe Shaw is picking this up two days after they aired Slapshot 2.
From their FAQ:
Does AMC edit movies for content?
Yes. Like most advertiser-supported networks, AMC edits programming for certain "objectionable" content, including nudity and offensive language. As a national network available on basic cable, AMC adheres to standards that will be acceptable to the majority of our viewers, our sponsors and our cable and satellite affiliates. Whenever possible, the movie studios provide us with TV-ready versions of their movies designed to be acceptable to most TV networks.

What's with people hating the Golf Channel? I can't imagine watching it unless you're a golfer. Next year should be a good year for the network as they get the opening two rounds of every PGA tournament. Their coverage is fantastic.
Anyway, the channel this morning was still showing on 47 as well as 144, but I expect that the switch will be flipped by the time I'm home from work.

I'm bummed. Each night there is about 10 channels with people squealing about home/restaurant/fashion/health decorating/improvements on them.
Roll all of them into one channel and that would free up a few more.

No one "has to" subscribe to the Golf Channel, the NHL Network, or anything else they choose to subscribe to. Shaw technicians don't coerce you to sign up under threat of violence...do they? I have been on Bell for over a year, so I can't say for certain.
