Default Damon Allen

Should pass Warren Moon's record on Monday. To think that this guy had his best year in the CFL last year at the age of 42. He should be in the pro footbal hall of fame. Congratulations on a job well done. I don't think anybody will break this record ever. He may play a couple of more seasons. I wonder how many times he has been sacked in his career? I wonder who is the closest quarterback in terms of games professionally whether it is CFL or NFL?

Earl Morrall played 21 seasons at QB and Jim Hart 18. I can't find actualy games played stats though.

Did you know that Damon Allen is Marcus Allen's big brother? I may be the only one who didn't know, but I just learned this the other day.

He probably already holds the record for most touchdowns by a grandfather -- 66 by my unofficial count.

Did you know that Pinball Clemons was a college sophomore when Allen made his CFL debut? And this season might not be his last either...

One of the remarkable things is how he's changed his game. He used to be such a run-first QB. And as age has started to catch up with him, he's running less, passing more. I don't know that it's accurate to say that last year's season was his best; his rushing was down a bit. I'd say 1997 was his peak year, as far as an all-round game. But he still has great instincts for recognising when holes open up and he can take off. He's also one of the craftiest QBs I've ever watched as far as using his feet to create openings for little shovel passes.

Allen is one of the (if not the) best QB's in the CFL of all time. Classy guy too, if any of you have had the pleasure to meet him.

He broke my heart many times with last-minute game winning drive when he played for BC.

At 42, he still looks like a young stud QB. So long as he can avoid injuries, he may play 2 more years.

Allen has just set the record with a TD pass in the 3rd vs the Ti-Cats.

I thought Marcus was the older of the two. Didn't Damon also originally start out as a baseball player in the Pittsburgh Pirates minor league system before moving to the CFL at the age of 21 as well. Pretty impressive accomplishments for Damon none the less.

What a joke this stupid professional record is. Its like comparing apples to oranges. Its ridiculous. This is just a record that the Canadian media glorifies just to put "our" game on a pedestal, when we all know the CFL is a joke compared to the NFL. I'd like to see Damon try to throw 70,000+ yards in the NFL, but wait, he's not good enough to play in the best football league in the world

How can a player not good enough to play in the best league in the world own this non-meaningful record. Allen would get crushed. He's lucky he's playing in a pass-happy league, with a bigger field playing two extra games a year too

This record is a joke and should not be recognized. I'll give him credit for his CFL record of most TD passes, most yards passing, etc. But this "professional yards passing" he owns is absurd

I like the CFL and enjoyed today's Labour Day Classic, but I'm not gonna kid myself. The CFL is a 3rd rate league.

What league would you put as 2nd then?

The one other thing I was thinking of- how many seasons did he play in that were 18 game seasons? That would also make a difference.

Then the Hall in Canton should be renamed the NFL Hall of Fame instead of the Pro-Football Hall of Fame.

And while I generally agree with you about NFL v CFL, QBs are a bit different. Flutie, Garcia and Moon all needed more playing time in the CFL before they got a chance in the NFL. Just because Allen didn't jump back to the NFL like those other 3 did doesn't mean he may not be as good. As you say, apples and oranges.

I'm a big NFL fan, not so big on the CFL. Yes there's lots of talent in the NFL, but there's lots of talent in the CFL. Just because you're very good in one doesn't mean you'll be good in the other (works both ways). Throwing for 70,000 yards is an amazing feat period, and he deserves to be in the PRO FOOTBALL hall of fame for his accomplishments.

As I approach middle age, I find myself cheering more and more for the older guys who refuse to quit and can still perform at a top level. I even (grudgingly) include Chris Chelios in that. I hope I can still walk without pain in my mid-40s.

So, go go Grandpa Damon!

exactly the players arent all that different in the 2 leagues, they just are better suited to the style of league they play in. 70 000 yards is awsome and he has over 10000 yards rushing in a passing league, but apples and oranges, they should change the name to nfl hall of fame
