Yes, just walk in and take a seat. The seating area was only 1/2 full for the practices and 2/3 full for the scrimmage

Was able to watch the game (Team A vs Team B) and watch the practices for Team B & C.

- Mangiapane - Best rookie on the ice by far. He was flying out there and is not afraid to go in to the corners. Pretty weak shot but that is to be expected. During the game, he gave the goalie (#40 Simpson) a snow shower right before getting crosschecked in the face by Kanzig.

- Brodie & Englelland - While Brodie already looks in mid-season form, Engelland just cannot seem to keep up with his pace. Brodie is too good a player to be covering for Engelland's turnovers, who could not complete a breakout pass all game.

- Hamilton - Was excited to watch him in action. Comes as described - tall, lanky, and a smooth skater. Maybe the rumors of him having the flu are accurate, because the guy was hunched over for the duration of practice and could barely skate by the end of it. Him and Giordano were paired together and looked pretty good. Gio looks small next to him.

- Colborne - somehow got even faster with the weight gain. Was controlling the puck around the boards with ease.

- Russell & Wideman - does not seem to me this pairing is getting broken up any time soon. By far the two best players for Team B during the game. Russell is so good at walking the blueline and keeping the puck in the zone.

Will provide more info as it comes to mind or just ask if you'd like to know about specific players.

Nice to see the whole Flames brass (Burke, Treliving, Conroy) watch every practice like hawks in their little glass room.

I'd be curious to know how Shore is doing. IMO, he is one of the big question marks of this pre-season.

Gaudreau & Monahan - only watched them during in game action. It was quite difficult to focus on Team A forwards as their goal was on the far end. Gaudreau looked like his usual self - dancing and weaving through the opposition and creating chances. Really did not notice Monahan much during the game to be honest. Ferland was the other member on their line.

Kylington - His skating allows him to keep up with Hartley's intense drills during practice. Seemed pretty comfortable out there during offensive drills. Like Russell, he is also good at controlling the blueline.

PTOs - No chance Douglas Murray is getting an NHL contract anytime soon. Aaron Johnson threw a big hit and knocked some poor rookie in to the glass.

Having too many top 2 defenseman is a nice problem to have, but I really hope someone steps up and steals Engelland's spot. I'll feel bad for Brodie if he goes from riding shotgun with Giordano to being saddled with Engelland.

Just need a refresher about pre-season games because I just found out my dad won tickets for us for the BoA on Monday! Sweet seats too.

Since it's split squad, if I recall correctly, the "best" players for the Flames usually play the Calgary game and the "best" players for the Oilers usually play at the Rexall game, correct? So that each home crowd has a good chance to see their team win, so to speak.

How did you skip the part where Mangiapane then tried to punch Kanzig in the face?

Calgary Flames D Dougie Hamilton impresses coach & captain on first day
http://www.calgarysun.com/2015/09/18...n-on-first-day

Quote:
“I don’t know if you watched the skating tests at the end, but I believe he was the fastest of his group,” beamed Flames head coach Bob Hartley. “We told you we got younger, we got bigger and we got faster. Well ... here’s the proof right there — he was the fastest player in the skating test.”
Quote:
“He destroyed everybody in the mountain, so that was pretty impressive,” marvelled Mark Giordano, the backbone of the Flames’ blueline brigade. “But I think one stride is worth three of anyone else’s, so it’s a little easier for him.
Quote:
“He’s an impressive skater, for sure. He’s a lot like (fellow Flames defenceman TJ Brodie) — he just skates really well and it just seems so effortless and easy for them and pisses off the rest of the guys who don’t skate so smooth.”
Quote:
The boss was impressed.

The captain was impressed.

And the new guy?

“I was just trying to breathe after.”
