NFL players have been suspended without charges... different contracts, but it has happened.

I think this will be settled and forgotten by start of season.

The person paying the money probably gets to say what they want.

I'd bet that a settlement is reached and a statement more or less exonerating Kane is released.

I doubt the girl would say anything in a settlement. A statement by Kane exonerating Kane would not be especially believable. Now, I could see a statement by the prosecution, depending on their view, of either "We have determined not to lay charges" or "We are respecting the wishes of the alleged victim and will not be proceeding".

Voynov's case keeps getting mentioned in comparison, I think Voynov's case was more complicated, in that, in addition to any crime/punishment that was under consideration, his Visa status was a consideration...I believe, that as of now, the US has suspended his work Visa... http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog/Jason...ring/179/70746

So as the player was unusable, and there was a legal excuse, with the no lo contendere conviction, it made sense for the Kings to try to avoid the Cap hit by suspending Voynov.

I am not sure about Canadian law on work Visas for Kane, but, I would think that Kane would not have this sort of Immigration issue UNLESS convicted.

The majority of NFL contracts are not guaranteed...usually the players are simply cut...also their CBA allows the league greater latitude in discipline (at least until this latest Patriot incident BS)

sureloss posted this at the very start of the Voynov thread:

Second paragraph says it all.

The definition of 'pendency' would answer whether that could be when they were under investigation, or not until after an individual was formally charged

According to Friedman a big reason why Voynov was suspended during his investigation was that he refused to cooperate with NHL investigators who were doing an independent review of the accusations.

Unclear as to if Kane is cooperating with the NHL in this matter, but if he isn't going to be suspended likely he is and the NHL is comfortable based on their own independent review of what evidence they looked at.

Kane and his accuser continue to try to reach a resolution:
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/c...916-story.html

Quote:
Attorneys for the parties have been in communication for weeks, though they had not reached a formal agreement by Wednesday afternoon that would potentially end the criminal investigation. To the contrary, the sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, described a fluid situation in which both Kane and his accuser have refused at times to acquiesce because they both view themselves as the wronged party.

"Each of them has threatened to walk away and just let the justice system take care of it," one source said. "They both say the truth is on their side."

As the fragile talks continue, the criminal investigation will be at the forefront of the Blackhawks preseason, which opens Friday with a three-day camp at the University of Notre Dame. The team and Kane's agent, Pat Brisson, said Kane is expected to attend the public event, where he's likely to face a crush of reporters for the first time since a woman accused him of sexually assaulting her last month at his off-season home outside Buffalo.

At the same time, western New York prosecutors will be preparing to take the criminal case to a grand jury later this month. Kane attorney Paul Cambria has confirmed the upcoming proceedings but said he had not been given any specific dates for when evidence will be presented.

The Erie County district attorney's office postponed grand jury proceedings last week, a move that raised questions about the direction of the high-profile criminal investigation of the Blackhawks winger. Before the last-minute delay, Kane's accuser and a friend who was with her at Kane's lakefront home in the town of Hamburg on the night of the alleged incident had been scheduled to appear.

The decision to reschedule the proceedings was made by prosecutors, and the sources said it did not come at either Kane's or his accuser's request. Kane's accuser continues to cooperate with the criminal investigation and has hired an attorney who specializes in personal injury cases, in addition to the defense attorney who has been guiding her through that criminal investigation, sources said.

Neither of those attorneys could be reached for comment.

This post isn't specifically about Kane or making a judgement on him.

But boy, it must be nice to be rich. You can rape and pay off the victim, murder like OJ (allegedly) and have a good chance to get off... must be really nice.

Or it can suck to be rich and have people falsely accuse you looking for a big payday.

I'm not saying it would be awesome to rape and get away with it. I'm saying its nice to be wealthy and simply buy your way out of trouble you may get in to

Or just don't rape people and it won't be a problem if you are wealthy or not.
Strange point you are trying to make regardless.

Ha, that was the most bizarre/awkward "must be nice" statement I've ever seen.

I'm surprised I can still quote this. Mods, some consistency would help determining the acceptable ethics of this public community. Less offensive posts in another thread today were wiped immediately.

Unless people are (on purpose it would seem) taking this out of context as me wishing I was a rich person who could rape and kill at will, I find nothing offensive about my post. It's pointing out the obvious. If you're wealthy you have the means to get away with things poor people do hard time over.
