but in that case he mother would just get him to kill the husband and daughter right there and run away. Why take the child away?
Because, in the case that Cliff mentioned, she wouldn't have been looking to have anyone killed, just get the daughter out. The guy ends up killing both.
Abduction by a non-custodial parents accounts for 99 per cent of child abductions. Of course the mother has to be a suspect, though I doubt for murder.
Angry mom tells boyfriend she can't go to Edmonton without her kid.
Idiot boyfriend volunteers to go to ex-husband's house to get kid. Gets in tussle with father and kills him.
Idiot boyfriend, now in a wild panic from killing father, tries to carry girl away and she freaks out and fights back. Panicked idiot kills girl.
I thought the mother was already living in Edmonton and the father and murderer were living in Blairmore.
As Minnie said, it was a small town. The degrees of separation are small. People date and hook up with other people's ex's all the time, they break up and life goes on.
It's just as likely that the father and murderer had other completely unrelated dealings in the past 3 years that the mother may not have even been aware of.

I have no idea what actually happened in this case. I'm just pointing out that a non-custodial parent trying to abduct (or have someone else abduct) a child happens far, far more often than a stranger targeting and abducting a child. By a 99:1 ratio. So the non-custodial parent is always a suspect.

Totally plausible, but I think the point being made is that the mother will be, or should be investigated to determine if there was a current connection with the accused. Shouldn't be too hard to prove or disprove.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.
Yeah, well most killers are complete morons. They're nothing like the cunning, manipulative masterminds we see on TV and movies. They're more like the dumbest screw-up you went to high school with.

No one is disagreeing with that. It's just disgusting how people are in such a hurry to try her in the court of public approval. She just lost her kid. Let the cops figure it out.
BTW, I could have sworn they had some kind of joint custody agreement.

IDK, but watching the video of the mom, her emotions don't seem to be on par of a parent who just lost a young child. Her eyes were dry, her "cry" seemed forced. But that is just my observation.

You can't convict someone on that. Everyone handles trauma very differently.

Spoken like someone who's never lost anyone.

At the very least I would think she is medicated, that would account for the demeanour somewhat.

Well just look at the actions of the grandfather (mom's side). Some nutjob who goes to the media and trashes the dead guy, and insinuates it was drug related, while his grand daughter is still missing. Does something seem completely off about this?
What's appalling? The armchair CSIs and BAU wannabes in this thread, particularly after Jiri's request - and mom isn't crying enough? For the love of green paint and blueberry scones - SERIOUSLY? Shut up. Christ on toast.

IDK
For some reason I really wanted to reach through the screen and slug somebody when I read this. Time to walk away.
