Stantec (along with Kelly Ramsey and CofE) is going to tank the Edmonton office market for years to come. I see why they're building it (to consolidate fragmented space), but there is no way that market can absorb 1.5 million sq.ft. of new space in a normal leasing environment, let alone a downturn.

If that thing on the top is what makes it taller, Brookfield could just add a 5m tall middle finger aimed north to make it taller again.

It's going to stick out like a sore thumb. O'well, looks like a nice looking tower.
I'm sure this will inspire whoever builds the next major tower in Calgary to aim even higher.

I'd rather have the nicest tower outside Toronto.

Oxford will be building something taller in Calgary, I'm almost sure of it.

This is bang on. The Edmonton office market is already in the tank and they are delivering 1.5 million of new space? Calgary is overbuilt but when oil comes back (fingers crossed) space gets eaten up at a rapid pace. Edmonton is more steady and absorbs roughly 150,000 SF per year. It will be 10 years before this building if fully absorbed.

One giant building in a sea of mediocrity just to lay claim to the tallest.
It's just so Edmonton.

Yup, just like the drive to have the World's largest mall killed their "Downtown" and most retail development, this too will be an albatross for many years to come for Edmonton.
