Following in the footsteps of a few other former Habs. 20 years ago, Patrick Roy wrote a $500,000 cheque to the Montreal Children's the day he was traded to Colorado. Saku Koivu helped raise $8 million for a PET/CT scanner for Montreal General Hospital. Well done, gentlemen.

Man what a classy guy. That's a huge chunk of change.

Great optics for the NHL and the Canadiens and they didn't have anything to do with it.

$10 million is huge. Yes these guys make big bucks, but agents and taxes eat up a huge portion of what they make.

$10 million for an NHLer is really huge. Commendable.

there are lots of places to put your charity dollar too, but i can't think of anything that fosters more goodwill in your community than helping the children's hospital.

That is 14% of his contract, so I would say it's pretty substantial.

Hard to not like the guy after that.

God Damn it, he is making it harder and harder for me to dislike him.

Can hockey start again, so I can re-enforce my dislike for him.

Very classy move. That's a ton of money and will have a very real impact on the kids that have to use the facility.

Pretty tough to dismiss something that substantial as a publicity stunt. Classy move.

The kid has 10-15 years to make big money, which could be ended at any time and he just gave away a very large chunk of his take home income.

If it was a publicity stunt than he deserves any positive publicity he wants.

I hope your not saying he made the donation for a tax deduction? Sometimes there are just benefits to being a very generous and community minded person...

It always aggravates me how much athletes spend on their ridiculous lifestyles. The twitter pictures from Vegas of 200K bar tabs, the multiple sports cars, gambling, etc.

These athletes deserve the money they earn. It's simple economics. And, they deserve the right to spend it however they wish. But, it's frustrating to see the ridiculous lifestyles and bankruptcies.

PK just set an huge example for athletes among all sports. I hope they notice and follow his actions.

The tax deduction comment drives me freaking nuts. He'd keep more of his money if he didn't make the donation and paid more in taxes.

"I'm not a hockey player, I'm just a guy who plays hockey, and some day I won't play hockey any more," he said.

"Every time you walk into this hospital, you'll know what I stand for."

What an amazing contribution, from a stand-up dude.

Tax deduction or no tax deduction

A: the hospital gets the money regardless of how much taxes PK saves.
B: the tax rate in QC is insane, so even after it's factored in, he's still way down compared to other players around the league.

PK Subban is awesome.

Where did I say that? I was just saying that it's not as if it's the full 10 million......jeez relax! It's incredible that he's doing this.

Ya, the credit you get for charity donations is a pittance. Good on PK, never been a fan of his but I'm warming to him lately.

Love the "off ice" PK..."on ice" is a little annoying and galavanting. But nonetheless, amazing contribution.
