Nelson is a proven player who is better than 10 of the Flames forwards you have listed. He would be a perfect addition to the 2nd line LW. Added bonus of being a very competent Center as well.
You'd have:
Gaudreau-Monahan-Hudler
Nelson-Bennett-Frolik
That's a rock solid top 6 fw's. Let the rest battle it out for the bottom 6 spots.

Huberdeau stilled an unsigned RFA as well.

Bollig / Jooris/ Shore
Porier/ Byron
I hope Raymond on LW is replaced as we have a crap ton of players pushing for roster spots now.
And with that said, you gotta think a trade of sorts would come at the end of preseason. Maybe to clear cap for the future or to clear spots on the team vs losing players on waivers.

Nelson would definitely be an interesting add for the Flames. I wonder what the Isles would be looking for?
The Flames have a surplus of almost NHL ready forwards and there is no way to fit them all on the roster. Would they be interested in two of: Shore, Porier, Klimchuk, Granlund, Jooris, Jankowski, Arnold and Agostino? Plus of course they would have to take Raymond. Which wouldn't be too bad for them anyway, as they have cap space and he could be more productive back in the East, like he was for Toronto.

You guess?
Judging by how often it happened last season alone, I'd say he's extremely replaceable.
I think it's a long-shot Nelson would be available at a palatable price, but if he were I wouldn't have to guess as to whether or not he'd supplant Mason Raymond.

It would be odd for the Isles to move Nelson. 23 year old big centre who played his second season in the NHL and scored 20 goals.

Well he is RFA put in a decent offer sheet in then. Uou either #### with the Islanders money or he accepts and you get him for less than A prospect or well etablished player if the Islanders dont match.

I'd be cautious with Nelson. He scored half his goals on the PP running a four man forward unit with Tavares, Okposo, Neilson and Nelson. He also had a hot start, scoring 14 goals before Christmas. He scored only 6 goals in the last 45 games.
Comeau was also a proven player with the Islanders at one point.
The Islanders have a policy of sitting out unsigned RFA's for the year if they aren't signed by training camp. Could get interesting.

Brock Nelson's agent tells me he and #Isles haven't spoken in weeks with Thursday deadline looming. http://www.newsday.com/sports/hockey...eks-1.10845229 …
There must be some truth to Eklunds musings, Nelson could be moved. Still think it'd be a low risk High reward acquisition.

Blue Jackets trying to upgrade their blueline:
http://bluejacketsxtra.dispatch.com/...e-jackets.html
Quote:
Whispers abounded among agents and front-office personnel in Traverse City, Mich., that the Blue Jackets are still involved in trade talks with teams looking for forwards.
Kekalainen has stated that he believes in this club’s defense, but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t tried repeatedly to upgrade the blue line this offseason.
A trade will be more likely if one (or more) of the Blue Jackets’ dynamic young prospects — forwards Josh Anderson, Oliver Bjorkstrand, Sonny Milano and Kerby Rychel — prove beyond a doubt that they are NHL-ready.

Okposo available for the right price:
http://www.newsday.com/sports/hockey...ors-1.10844961
Quote:
Okposo is entering the final year of a five-year, $14-million contract. Brief talks between Snow and Okposo's agent, Pat Brisson, went nowhere. There have been no new talks on a contract and there still is strong belief around the league that Okposo could be had for the right price, even with the season starting next month.

Never if Treliving could convince the Jackets to take a contract like Smid or Engellend for basically nothing that would help immensely.
Selling high on Wideman would be okay as it frees up significant dollars next summer when Gaudreau, Monahan, Hudler, Russell, and Colborne need new deals.

One of the guys the Flames almost got when everyone thought Iginla was going to Boston:
Koko=Khokhlachev
Mark Divver @MarkDivver
Koko: 'Boston should make decision with me. I wait for my chance already two years. Still waiting. We’ll see.'
Mark Divver @MarkDivver
More Koko: 'This is last year of my contract. I’m 22 already. If they don’t give me a chance to play, why am I here?'
Mark Divver @MarkDivver
'I will not play in Providence all my life. They told me wait for my chance and I’m still waiting.'
Mark Divver @MarkDivver
In Boston last yr, 'I played 2 games and the 3rd game I play 2 minutes. I don’t think that’s really a chance. … hopefully it’s coming soon.'
Mark Divver @MarkDivver
SKA St. Petersburg acquired Koko's KHL rights from Avangard Omsk last month. His Bruins contract is up after this year.
Mark Divver @MarkDivver
As Koko noted, led @AHLBruins in scoring last 2 years, plus 11 Gs in 17 playoff gms. Point total held down by knee, hand injuries in 14-15.

Hmmm. Not sure it's smart to say that during training camp. Probably should have piped down with that unless he's sure he's not making the team.

I'd still like him on the Flames. Good player. Worked hard to prove he belonged and now wants the reward. Nothing wrong with what he said. He provided valid proof of why he thinks that way. He either makes it or gets traded. Either way good luck.

I don't think he would be a good fit at all. I don't think he would push his way onto center, and the Flames need a big winger or two, not another undersized one. Good prospect, but definitely not the kind of player the Flames need at this point at all.

Didn't we just trade a player away for a 2nd round pick that was making similar comments and he got blasted on these boards

Sven is better and he didn't really say anything, more of his agent saying play him or trade him. happens all the time, the only think uncommon about this is the a GM talking about it,(to justify the trade)

How is extending Okposo not priority #1 for the Islanders? I know term and money is always a consideration, but I would have thought he'd be in their long term plan.
