^ how about because Serena rarely ever acknowledges the effort and ability of her opponents when she loses? It's always lucky shots, fortunate drops, yadda, yadda. She's a mostly ungracious loser on those rare occasions when does lose.

She is not a good loser, that's for sure.
Neither were McEnroe, Connors, Nastase etc. Of course we look back at them as great "competitors".
Serena is an incredible athlete. Imagine if she went back in time and played Chris evert. Would she lose a game?

Personally, I did not think it sporting to have an NFL linebacker beat up women.

Heaven forbid a superior athlete should win an athletic contest.

I get your general idea but I see Connors as quite a bit better than the other two. Jimmy was frequently funny and self deprecating. He once corrected a line call, pointed out the mark, in his opponents favour and the umpire agreed and duly awarded the point. Can't imagine McEnroe or Nasty ever did that.

Wawrinka seemed to give up pretty easily. Although facing Fed when he's playing like Fed must be disheartening.

Ratings for ESPN Italy are through the roof!

I had the opportunity to visit Flushing Meadows last week. Got to see the big stars up close and personal - it was a great experience.
Excited to see an all-Italian women's final and another sure-to-be-classic Djokovic-Federer final.

Not a lot of interest without Serena, eh?
Pennetta won 7-6 6-2, then retired from tennis entirely.

PVRed it and just watched now. Her announcement was an ultimate "mic drop" moment, but kudos to both women. I really enjoyed the match. Their camaraderie is admirable.

I hate and love the camaraderie in tennis.
On one hand, I love how they are all basically friendly to each other and very sporting.
On the other hand, I'd love to see two guys (or girls) who genuinely hate each other for off court or on court reasons go at it.

I don't think Serena and Maria are huge fans of each other.

While Serena and Caroline Wozniacki are shoving their BFFedness down everyone's throat.
Someone like Kim Clijsters was always a favourite of mine because of her general kindness. On the court, she was the fiercest competitor, but a lovely girl, whom everyone respected for her treatment of others.
Rivalries are great for sport though; no doubt about that.

She has confirmed she will finish out the rest of the season before calling it quits, but yeah, heck of a way to go out.
