Thumbs down to contracts - I switched to Virgin Mobile and just buy minutes as I need them - save a ton of money, free VM and CALLID, don't have to pay rip off SAF and 911 fees, and get to use Bell's network!

I'd agree with most of this. Coming off two (yes two) 3-yearplans with Telus, I agree that it will be guaranteed to cost you more than $25 (or any rate plan that they quote you with).
In addition to what Crawford has stated above, what often happens as well is that you will also begin to use it more, and more and more....I started out the same way as you, only for basic calls. But its just so convenient - actually for me, just more so being lazy - to use, so well you just use it. you will go over your minutes just like that.
One thing you might want to consider is to pay the extra $5 or whatever it is to have your "unlimited" calling time kick in a bit earlier in the evening. But you can add that whenever you want, so you could always go ahead and try without it and see how it goes.
As for the charger thing, mine sucked to. I had one of those LG (? - not really sure to be honest). Silver, flip phone thing that were common with a lot of telus customers there for a while. It was a real pain the arse, as it charged by plugging the phone into the charger...the charger had these almost little prong things, and unless you just got it 100% right, then it wouldn't work. Or charge for a bit, and then decide not to. At least it would let you know, as it would flash a red light at you if not working properly.

I'd owned both Moto (v60, e815) and Samsung phones (A600), and have to say I didn't mind either brand. To me, sound quality is utmost as I hate it when I get calls from by buddy's Audiovox - sounds like he's calling from the bottom of a well or something. The Motos are known to have great call quality so I don't mind them at all. The Samsung I had wasn't bad for RF either, but it was the size of a brick.
I use cradles to charge phones, and never had a problem with Moto, although the Samsung cradles were infinately better to use. The pin connectors Moto used sucked plain and simple, but I found it wasn't as bad with a cradle, especially if you charged the batteries directly as someone pointed out above.
I've moved to a Blackberry 7130e and miss the cradles that were available, charging port on this model is on the side....what a PITA... The mini USB thing isn't a convienient as it might seems as you need to install BB software on it to permit it to charge.
That said... this Blackberry kicks on the many phones I've owned prior... nothing like having e-mail and internet connectivity everywere you go... it's a good thing CP doesn't have a WAP skin or I'd be on this even more than I am now!

Can anyone tell me why in the rest of the 'civilised cell phone world' incoming calls are free. This is not the case in North America unless you have some kind of plan (that costs extra) and then its only somthing like 400mins or the first minute of the incoming call. (off topic)
To keep on topic, I have one of the original Razor V3 motorolla, and it gets tons of dust under the screen cover. This is an acknowleged problem from Motorolla. When I asked the Rogers outlet what they could do about it they said it had to sent to a branch that had a tech guy who would fix it for a $25 charge!!But is its less then one year old! It would take two weeks and sorry we dont have a loaner phone!!
I was really p****d off as I have bought at least 7 phones from this outlet and signed many contracts. NEVER again.

There is a big difference in quality between GSM (FIDO/ROGERS) and CDMA (BELL and TELUS).
Moto CDMA phones are good. Moto GSM phones are crap.
Erickson GSM phones are good. Erickson CDMA are crap

I thought my T720 was fantastic and it's a GSM. The Samsung still sucks though. Still taking pictures inside my pants.

Turn on the cam key guard. It's in the menu under pictures.

My old Motorola V710 was a piece of crap. The battery didn't last, the phone wouldn't ring, the volume kept changing, it would also freeze.... man what a piece of crap.
I replaced it recently with a Nkia 6265i. This phone is . Best phone I've ever had and the most stylish.

While I'm not disputing this, working for Telus I can assure you that the service Motorola gives it's phones is crap. Had a gentleman call in today and he had sent his phone in 3 times and each time it came back with the exact same problem. And he had to pay for the 'repairs' out of his own wallet. Also, I can verify the dust under the screen comment. Also a large issue. It seems like Motorola is trying to bank of it's name lately instead of improving it's product like the other phone companies. They just don't have the hang of all the gadgets yet.

Yeah I don't know what's up with that in North America. It is also free to receive texts everywhere else. It is pretty nice running out of prepaid airtime and still being able to receive outside communication.

It is free to receive texts. However if you run out of 'airtime' your phone is technically suspended....

I find that the Motorola phones are ok... I mean... I've never had a problem with my motorloa GSM phone...
And I agree with Icarus... my friends in HK, Australia, Malaysia and Great Britain receive all their calls for free... where as me... have to use my prepaid minutes to receive calls... hate it...

I've had a few Moto phones and never had a single problem. Maybe I'm just lucky....
I'm currently using a SLVR L7. Very good phone, but I don't have time to play around with it. I'll get to it one day.

The V710 was an exception. Extremely crappy phone. Basically it was released too early. It was one of the first phones w/ all those options on it and it turned out to be a dud..
6265 is a great phone though. Supposedly fantastic reception.
