I remember seeing earlier renderings of the West Village where the layout was much, much cleaner and more smartly designed.

When it comes to big events I would flip that around though.

The field-house folks should expect to have 10-15-20 days a year where that facility is meaningfully restricted by special events. I would hope at least, whether its sporting events, concerts, conventions, whatever. I don't think that's compromising the facility, that's just life. If the fieldhouse folks don't want to share they better find $200M. (I don't mean that as harshly as it might sound)

Smells like a lame negotiating tactic.

Yeah, but the "fieldhouse folks" are Calgarians, and the 200 million bucks would be coming from them. Saying "that's life" would totally work if the Flames were going to pay for it.

Sure 20 days isn't bad.

However, when McMahon has hosted the Grey Cup, I believe they started installing the temporary seating after Labour Day and It wasn't fully removed until January or so (someone who knows the actual dates can correct me if I'm way off). I would consider that an unreasonable amount of time for the fieldhouse to be blocked off.

If they could do a 48 hour install for the Grey Cup seating like they do in Arizona, that would be excellent. I'd even consider a couple of weeks for installation and tear down to be fine for a big event like that every couple of years.

That's why the question needs to be asked now. You don't want to wait until the building is open to find out that the running track (or more) will be out of commission for 4 or 5 months any time the Stamps host the Grey Cup.

With an arena/stadium on the land?

Notwithstanding the declaration that there is no "plan B", I have to think a reasonable alternative would be to build the arena in West Village and perhaps the stadium/fieldhouse at the foothills athletic park as originally intended. Not sure if that is the best use for that land, but at least there are less variables to deal with.

Not the grand vision KK wanted, but he wants grand, both city and CSEL will need to open up the wallet more.

Looks like a initial/preliminary rendering of what could be possible for a potential fieldhouse....nothing more.

When your face is a bum and you close one eye, everything looks half-assed.

If that's all the "potential" they could dream up, we're in trouble. Usually things don't live up to initial renderings. If a half covered up track for Stamp's games is the gold standard, I can't wait to see the that we end up with.

I love the Flames. Unfortunately so far, this project really sucks.

The odd thing about that rendering is the perspective they chose to show it from. It appears as though the number of rows increases as you wrap around towards the side the perspective is shown from so we're left looking at the puny side. I'd think it would have appeared much more impressive if shown from the other direction.

The overhead angle really shows what a difference it will be from one side to the other. It seems like the design has been significantly compromised because of the shadowing bylaw.

Spoiler!

This interior rendering looks so much nicer. I hope this is what they're working towards, and not the other designs.
Spoiler!

^^^^^^^

Is it just me or do a lot of these renderings contradict each other? It feels like they showed three separate graphic design students a vision and told each one to make a rendering from a different angle and then just hoped it would all look like it's from the same building.

I mean a couple look the same, but if you put every fieldhouse rendering to date in a line it seems they don't all match up.

LOL all I paid attention to was the crazy mish mash of Soccer games going on there, you got some guys doing some MMA in the middle a girl dragging a dead body off the field on the right side. /shortattentionspan

Not sure if possible, but the WESTbound bow trail needs to be a tunnel. The cut up of the village does not look very pedestrian friendly.

How about the photographer with the super-zoom lens for what appears to be a girls' youth soccer practice. I think he'll be having a conversation with the police before he leaves the building.

I'm trying to figure out why no one is running in the inside lane. Like, who voluntarily uses an outer lane on a casual run.
