Yeah, they beat another quote I had on Blizzaks by $180. That's not chump change. Just can't stand the thought of killing a day there.

Order them on line.
They call you, book you in an appointment.
You drop the car and pick it up later with winter tires on it.
I don't see the problem.

Again, order on line.
They call you when they come in and book you an appointment.
At least this is how the Red Deer one works, can't see Calgary ones being different.

Oh really? That sounds pretty sweet then. Plus if I buy the ones I want before October 4 I save $17.50 per tire so then I'm getting four tires - installed - for six fitty. That's an awesome deal, I think.

Crap, that's for 17" rims. I have 18" rims. Price is double that and not any better than I can get at Tire Pirates, which is where I prefer to go. In fact, Tire Pirates is cheaper than Costco for the 18" tires.

I can confirm that they do it in Calgary too. It can take some time for the tires to come in and to get an appointment booked, so buy now so you're ready when the snow falls.

The problem I found last year when buying winter tires is, it's really hard to find them until about mid September at the earliest. Right now, a lot of places don't even have them in yet.

Costco does sell steelies, I got a set of basic black ones for the winter tires. They were also for a Rav4. Costco didn't want to mount them on the tires at first initially because I didn't buy the tires there but they agreed to when I explained I bought the rims there. http://www.costco.ca/wheels.html

100% off topic threadjack and I apologize.
I was next to a little Toyota recently and I am mostly sure it was a Yaris. However, it had a hybrid badge. I went on the Toyota Canada website and these are nowhere to be found. Google tells me Yaris hybrids are only available in other markets. Does anyone know where people are getting these little cars? My lease is coming up and I don't want to buy it out (seeing comparable vehicles on leasebusters with people offering $4500-$6000 incentives to take over 18 months of lease)... value isn't there. I think I want a small and efficient car for a couple of years and this will be the sweet-spot.

I was told that you need to get there in the morning and if they have your tires then you wait around.
I will have to look into this internet thing as it sounds like there is a real chance to save some dough Ray me......

^ That's it, thanks. Brilliant marketing. Let's make a prius that looks nothing like a prius and call it a prius.
On-topic: For the first time in 6 years, I'm not seeing value in cross-border tire shopping. When I go to Hayden, I usually hit one of the tirerack.com affiliate shops near Spokane (the shop I use will even waive state tax when you wave your AB driver's license). Boo oil prices.

I bought new summers from Costco this year, and as was said I just ordered online, then made an appointment. I did have to wait a couple of weeks to get the appointment, but I only would've had to wait around if I wanted it done before I could get an appointment.

Anyone have an opinion on Good Year Wrangler SR A tires? They come factory on a lot of Truck / SUVs. Are they just garbage OEMs that dealers throw on vehicles?

Yeah it's kind of annoying in that you can plan on trying to avoid the October/November winter tire rush (because people can't help but wait until the last minute for some reason) where tire shops are crazy busy but the shops/warehouses don't cater to early birds. Maybe if they had more stock in September they wouldn't be so crazy in October.

Even though it means that winter is coming, I like seeing this thread bumped. People that don't take their tires seriously really annoy me. Major gear grinder. It's kind of the most important thing on your car. I know that they're expensive, and I'm not necessarily saying that winter tires are a must, but FFS, at least have decent tires. We live in a place where snow can happen literally any month of the year, and it's pretty much a guarantee for 6 of the 12 months, so driving around on bald ass tires is downright stupid, and dangerous, and inconsiderate of the rest of us whose vehicles handle winter as well as they handle summer.
Long live this thread. Spread the word. Winter tires will change your life, but if you just can't do the two sets, a decent all weather (not all season) tire is better than nothing. And those of you that drive RWD vehicles with bald tires, you deserve a punch in the face for shooting gravel at the car behind you.

Yup. I took them off my f150 as soon as I could. Terrible.
